Roos, Tigers Sunday bid

The Kangaroos and Richmond have staked a claim on Sunday night football on the Queen's Birthday weekend, hoping the AFL will make it an annual drawcard.

Kangaroos chairman Allen Aylett said yesterday that with the league moving on the 2006 draw - the Western Bulldogs have already professed their desire to play Monday night football - the Kangaroos had to push hard for good games.

He said both clubs were behind the move for a permanent Sunday match on the Queen's Birthday weekend.

"The AFL is already starting to formulate a good draw and we hope that a good crowd this afternoon between our two clubs may encourage the AFL - and it's certainly supported by our clubs - that we do have a regular Queen's Birthday Sunday fixture," Aylett said.

"It might even be at night, seeing that there is always a holiday on the Queen's Birthday on Monday.

Fine as long as the "home" team is alternated. The last time we did this sort of thing of fixturing a designated game we ended up as always the away side against the Saints early on in the year.
