Yeah or Neah - Jake Batchelor?
« on: September 22, 2013, 02:59:50 AM »
Next up is Jake Batchelor.

Batch played 9 games in his 3rd year of AFL to take his career tally to 39. His best return was 14 disposals against Melbourne (R8 ), Essendon (R9) and St Kilda (R14). This season he appeared to slip down the pecking order of midsized defenders behind the likes of Petterd and Grimes.

Trade!
DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

“We are really excited about what we have brought in. We have got great depth of players that can take us where we need to go. We are just putting some cream on the top at the moment,” he said.

Trade.
Unfortunately I cannot see him improving in the areas he is deficient in. Being his ability to defend on the bigger forwards and his agility and speed to play on the smaller forwards. He seems to be an inbetweener.
I have said it before but IMO his only chance of 'making it' is to become a lead up half forward. He does have good hands and hits packs pretty hard. Would be competing against guys like O'hanlon and Knights.
But as I said, trade for mine. Might get a third rounder for him.

x 2.

Hasn't come on and doesn't show me anything to suggest he will ever be in our best 25.  Might get overs on potential in a trade this year but if he stays then when it's proven he hasn't got enough ability he will be worth nothing.

Me I would keep jake for another year unless some idiot club offers something too good to refuse.I think part of the problem for jake is that he hasn't found his role yet  in the team.Is he a run and carry half back flanker or is he the 3rd tall, chop out type(the boy can mark a football).I would even give him a shot on the wing.
Jake plays the game tough and hard and I hate offloading these types.

this.

will only add i think his hamds have been poor far too often. the constant fumbles when hes needed to be clean have been infuriating. imo pace is his biggest problem even to plaay on the bigger forwards.

imo players like grimes mcintosh morris and a great reader of the play like vlastuin plus two kpds of genuine size is the way to go down back. if we could find a player like michael hibberd even better.

unfortunately he is one of many who just has to be in the gun. what will probably save him is there are others we will cut/trade before him.

i wonder how he would go with a bigger motor and playing thru the midfield.

Think it wil be a case of this ^

very good summation of where Jake's at right now

Had a extremely disppointing 3rd year, in some areas i'd go far as to say he went backwards. Played at times like he was unsure of (a) what his role was and (b) afraidn to make a mistake

Reckon people treat him a bit harshly as he was very solid in his first two seasons. Still only a pup. If he'd been a spud at Coburg like certain others then maybe he'd get better treatment. Actually how the stuff is that possible? ;D Did look to be lacking toe at times this year.

Gets another year. Can't just give up on a guy who looked like a player in his first 2 years at the club.

Lose 5kgs, lighten up and see how that goes. At his current build and height its a bit of a disaster, very slow for his height and cant jump over a jam tin. Think if they worked on his agility/speed, trimmed him down could still be a valuable mid size backman. Has a great penetrating kick
