Pity. Rated him highly.

Any likely replacements spring to mind?

Justin Leppitsch to coach Brisbane Lions
DateSeptember 24, 2013 - 1:14PM
Caroline Wilson
Chief Football Writer for The Age

Triple Brisbane premiership defender Justin Leppitsch will become the coach of the Lions, a decision that will be confirmed shortly at a hastily convened club board meeting.

The 227-game triple All-Australian is understood to have confirmed to Richmond his decision to move back to his old club before Brisbane president Angus Johnson ratified the decision with fellow directors.

Leppitsch will take on the senior job solo and won the role ahead of Sydney assistant Leigh Tudor.

He has worked at the Tigers as defensive coach since late 2009, having previously coached as an assistant at the Lions under Leigh Matthews and, briefly, sacked coach Michael Voss.

Johnson's future remained unclear after mediation talks at AFL headquarters early on Tuesday

As a defensive coach? How about someone like Matty Scarlett? I reckon he'd go great guns if we can pinch him from the Dogs.

Disappointed to lose Leppa. Excellent coach and Dimmas right hand man from the start. Transformed the career of Rance, Grimes, Jack and McGuane with their body work and positioning. Sad to see such a great character leave the club but may pave the way for new ideas and strategies going forward if we recruit the next coach well
