Leigh Montagna Trade?
« on: September 30, 2013, 06:12:11 PM »
Seeing as its silly season, over a few froths with a Saints mate of mine, we tossed up some trades between our club. We agreed on a win/win trade of Leigh Montagna for some young talent / draft picks.

Would take this guy in a heart beat. Wont win a flag at Saints, should have won their Best and Fairest this year, thought he was very good.

All depends on what we give up for him but I'd be keen to take him on, certainly before a Paul Chapman or a Darren Jolly type who are both injury prone and past their best.

If we are going to go after any 'mature/experienced' player I'd seriously look at Montagna.

Think Saints would want out 1st pick for him but if we had a deal with a Ben Griffiths and maybe an exchange of our pick 13 for their pick 21. As Saints are in huge need for a big body in defence.

Would love Montagna at Richmond.  :gotigers

Thoughts?
Go Tigers!

isnt he like 30 years? do we really need a 30 year old midfielder? if you wanna have a go at someone at stk then go for Nick Riewoldt plonk him down at CHF and watch us give the flag a shake.

I would take Montagna but not at anywhere near the price you mentioned.  Not for a 1st rounder and certainly not for a down trade including Griff.  Something like Griff and a 4th round pick for Montagna maybe, but only maybe at best.  Montagna is past his best now and not worth a high pick any more.

Pass as in, wouldn't fit in our best 22?

Surely he would, I'd take him over Chapman.

Would be very handy but is 30 and would still be in the 5-600k pay bracket - not going to happen.

$500-600k you're joking man. Probably $400-450max IMO. Especially now that he's going to hit 30.

Too old. If he was two years younger maybe.
