I wasn't there last night Mat but looking at the temperatures, humidity and (more importantly) dew point around game time would suggest that there was some (but not a large amount) humidity but little or no moisture (dew) on the ground and a significant breeze so the handling errors can't be blamed on humidity or moisture.

That's clearly wrong

Why?  It was only our side that kept falling over and spilling marks.  The temperature at game start was only 23 degrees so nowhere near as hot as what they have been training/playing in for the past few months, the dew point was 17.9 degrees so there should have been little or no dew, and if the conditions were to blame then we should have seen some semblance of mishandling from the opposition but there was none from the Suns.  And I don't buy into the theory that "they are locals and are used to the conditions" because the conditions were nothing out of the ordinary for potentially anywhere in our country (except maybe Tassie) for this time of the year.  We did the exact same thing up in Darwin a couple of years ago vs Port when on paper we should have spanked them yet we failed to 'bring our A game' and were given a lesson in desire and application by a bottom side.  At that time many were happy to blame the conditions (humidity, dew, etc etc, blah blah) but Port had to play in them also and being an SA side had no more right to blame the conditions for their performance than we did.  Blaming the conditions for anything last night is just a p-weak cheap cop out.  We didn't apply ourselves to any facet of the game and there is the single and real reason we lost.

Exactly Smokey, they were the better side and deserved to win.

Time for the boys to show what they are made of in next weeks performance

Interesting, we are up here at the moment & this morning went to brekky with Suns supporting family who live on GC, their first comment was that we hadn't factored in the slippery conditions.

It was a polite way of saying we were crap, they probably didn't want to spoil the mood for breakfast.

Just on the humidity/weather

Was speaking to a friend this arvo just after they got back from the GC

They said that although it wasn't hot last night (it had been around 29 during the day) they noticed the humidity.

They said it was a very still night but they found the air heavy, sweated like pigs  and just found it oppressive. Said it was like that year we were in Darwin and all the locals said it wasn't humid but to us it was and it was unbearable.

Yep we get humidity in Melb but not as frequently as they do up North.

Perhaps it gets back to what your used to?  ;D

sounds like an excuse. Also sounds like they were at a different game. It was cold and windy and little humidity.  :lol

No, they were there and they aren't the only people who were at the game who thought the conditions were "heavy". Big discussion at the airport today about it  :) ;D

24kmh winds reducing to 15kmh by games end doesn't suggest "very still" to me.  There must have been a breeze because the commentators kept mentioning how the players having shots at the 'Richmond' (cheer squad) end of the ground needed to allow for the breeze by aiming for the LHS goal post and letting the breeze bring the ball back.  The breeze increases the cooling effect (and comfort) on the body in higher humidity situations and reduces the chance of dew forming.  I didn't see one cool vest being used and I didn't see any Gold Coast players slipping over or going to ground.  Nothing to do with what your used to - the conditions had nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of that game.

I was there last night, 2 rows from the fence and it was clearly damp.

I walked across the training ground right next door after the game and the surface was as wet as having 10mm of rain.

Also heard McKenna somewhere say he felt games early in the season hold a significant home advantage for them and the GC member next to me said the Suns have been training under lights at least once per week for a month.

Mind you, most of that indicates to me a lack of preparation from our coaching staff.

Coz they handled the humid slippery conditions better than we did.

The temperature at game start was only 23 degrees so nowhere near as hot as what they have been training/playing in for the past few months

The temperature has nothing to do with it !

the dew point was 17.9 degrees so there should have been little or no dew

Ha ! , well you've got me there Livinia  ;D

and if the conditions were to blame then we should have seen some semblance of mishandling from the opposition but there was none from the Suns

Like I said , they just handled the conditions better , and at no stage have I ever blamed the conditions for the loss. They played better than we did on the night.

We didn't apply ourselves to any facet of the game and there is the single and real reason we lost.

That's just total crap
