Inside Football Mock Draft – Nov. 20th
Brett Anderson
6.54PM 20-11-2013

UPDATED: Wednesday 20th November

Its here!! In his final Mock Draft before tomorrow night’s event on the Gold Coast, our draft expert BRETT ANDERSON has been frantically working the phones to recruiters, player managers and insiders to get all the last minute moves.

So with out further adieu, here are our predictions for ALL 97 picks!!

Round 1

1. GWS Giants
Tom BOYD | Eastern Ranges | 22/8/95 | H: 199cm | W: 102kg
Described as a once in a generation player, Boyd will quickly make the Giants forget about missing out on Lance Franklin to their crosstown rivals. He thoroughly deserves his crown as the king of his draft class.

2. GWS Giants
Josh KELLY | Sandringham Dragons | 12/2/95 | H: 183cm | W: 75kg
Kelly could well have gone in last year’s mini-draft, such is the regard he is held in amongst club recruiters and he will add some class on the outside for the Giants.

3. St Kilda
Jack BILLINGS | Oakleigh Chargers | 18/8/95 | H: 184cm | W: 78kg
Of all the midfielders in this draft, Billings is clearly the one that can be labeled as a potential match winner. He will shift from half forward into the onball rotation as his tank improves.

4. Western Bulldogs
Marcus BONTEMPELLI | Northern Knights | 24/11/95 | H: 191cm | W: 83kg
Bontempelli’s draft stocks have soared to such an extent he now looks to be headed to the kennel, and wouldn’t make it past Brisbane if he was overlooked here. As one of the youngest players in the draft, his upside is enormous.
In the mix: James Aish

5. Gold Coast Suns
Kade KOLODJASHNIJ | Launceston | 9/8/95 | H: 190cm | W: 81kg
Guy McKenna spoke about the need for his club to add a running half back during trade week and Kolodjashnij fits the bill nicely with his composure and sure ball use. He may well develop into a full-time midfielder in years to come as well.

6. Collingwood
Matt SCHARENBERG | Glenelg | 18/9/95 | H: 190cm | W: 89kg
I rate Scharenberg as the second best player in the draft so this is a bargain for the Pies. Forget the foot concerns, he will be a star in black and white in a number of roles.
In the mix: James Aish, Christian Salem

7. Brisbane
James AISH | Norwood | 8/11/95 | H: 184cm | W: 75kg
Touted as a top-three lock pre-season, Aish has slowly dropped down the draft order but he is a sublime talent with ball in hand and almost always makes the right decision.
In the mix: Matt Scharenberg.

8. North Melbourne (F/S)
Luke McDONALD | Werribee | 9/2/95 | H: 188cm | W: 85kg
The son of former Roo and football boss Donald has honed his game in the VFL this year and should be ready to step in at half-back from Round 1, 2014. Pick No. 8 is the right value for a player of his talents.

9. Melbourne
Nathan FREEMAN | Sandringham Dragons | 16/6/95 | H: 182cm | W: 85kg
The Dees will have to agonize over a pair of Sandringham Dragons with Salem and Freeman still on the board and could go either way. Ultimately, Freeman’s power and speed is a better compliment for the likes of Viney, Trengove, Jones, Tyson and Toumpas.
In the mix: Christian Salem

10. Collingwood
Christian SALEM | Sandringham Dragons | 15/7/95 | H: 183cm | W: 81kg
The Pies have had an eye on the Dragons ball winner for a while and could have even taken him at No.6 if things panned out differently. They will be thrilled to land two players of the quality of Scharenberg and Salem.
In the mix: Ben Lennon

11. West Coast
Dominic SHEED | Subiaco | 10/4/95 | H: 184cm | W: 83kg
West Coast traded back from pick No.6 safe in the knowledge that their main target would still be available. Sheed will be ready to play from Round 1 and will help regenerate the Eagles midfield.

12. Richmond
Ben LENNON | Northern Knights | 5/7/95 | H: 188cm | W: 77kg
Richmond should end up with either Lennon or Christian Salem, and for that they will be thrilled. Either one fits a need and they have both been on their radar for a long time.
In the mix: Christian Salem

13. Carlton
Patrick CRIPPS | East Fremantle | 18/3/95 | H: 192cm | W: 90kg
Carlton could easily be tempted by McCarthy, but having only previously been thought of as a second round pick, Cripps is a bit of a bolter and has been likened by East Fremantle watchers to Jobe Watson as a big bodied midfielder.
In the mix: Cameron McCarthy, Luke Dunstan

14. GWS Giants
Lewis TAYLOR | Geelong Falcons | 17/2/95 | H: 173cm | W: 73kg
If Taylor were 10cm taller, he would have been off the board in the top handful of picks, but despite the height concerns the GWS are huge fans.
In the mix: Tom Cutler, Darcy Gardiner.

15. Sydney
Tom CUTLER | Oakleigh Chargers | 20/2/95 | H: 190cm | W: 85kg
Sydney will choose between the gifted small forward (Merrett) and the attacking defender in Tom Cutler. Ultimately, they opt for Cutler given their need to regenerate their rebounding defensive stocks.
In the mix: Tom Cutler

16. Geelong
Zak JONES | Dandenong Stingrays | 15/3/95 | H: 181cm | W: 74kg
Geelong are known admirers of the brother of Demon Nathan and love his competitiveness and no-frills attitude. He is a good fit at the Cattery and should provided good service.
In the mix: Blake Acres, Tom Cutler

17. Fremantle
Cameron McCARTHY | South Fremantle | 1/4/95 | H: 195cm | W: 89kg
Freo finally gets the young forward they have craved for a few years in the high-flying excitement machine. He will take some time, but the wide-open space of Patersons Stadium should suit his game perfectly. If he’s gone, Acres could be the pick.
In the mix: Blake Acres, George Hewett

18. St Kilda
Blake ACRES | West Perth | 7/10/95 | H: 189cm | W: 84kg
Acres is a player who in years to come could be the biggest steal in this draft. He can play a wide array of positions and at 189cm is the perfect size for a modern day midfielder.
In the mix:Patrick Cripps

19. St Kilda
Luke DUNSTAN | Woodville-West Torrens | 29/1/95 | H: 185cm | W: 83kg
St Kilda is the latest Dunstan will last to according to insiders and his inside work will be very handy alongside the likes of Jack Steven, Leigh Montagna and fellow draftees, Billings and Acres.
In the mix: Billy Hartung

20. Gold Coast Suns (C/S)
George HEWETT | North Adelaide | 29/12/95 | H: 185cm | W: 79kg
The Suns have a few they like still on the board, but go with the player with the biggest upside in Hewett. His work
In the mix: Jake Kolodashnij, Zach Merrett

ROUND 2

21. Port Adelaide
Trent DUMONT | Norwood | 30/6/95 | H: 186cm | W: 83kg

22. Brisbane
Michael APENESS | Eastern Ranges | 28/1/95 | H: 199cm | W: 98kg

Matt CROUCH | North Ballarat Rebels | 21/4/95 | H: 180cm | W: 78kg

Latest rumours are we will miss out on Salem and Lennon. That being the case we should pick Dunstan. Dunstan is someone who will play lots of games. Freeman is another Matty White only, Jones is hard at it but kicking has question marks. If we get someone like Freeman or Jones itll be disappointing.

@mightytiges - "Hi Brett, have u heard Richmond are interested in Darcy Byrne-Jones & Dwayne Wilson at picks 50 & 66 or is it more a hunch?"

@BrettAndersonIF - "Hunch on the second one [Wilson]. Slight interest in DBJ"

@kristianpisano - "Thanks for giving us DBJ."

Why you like him so much as a prospect. Personally I reckon he plays like a Matty White has played but its all opinion. Just interested in what you see in him.

I picked him so its my head if hes a dud  ;D

In all seriousness, I think I mentioned Im a massive wrap for explosive ball winners, probably why I stick up for Foley like I do. Things I like about him apart from his speed is, he's a unit, very strong in the core, will be hard to bring down when he gets a few preseasons into him. Is an inside/outside mid and the more of those you have in your line up the better. Losing Tuck, I think getting a player who will be able to help out Cotch and Conca in the guts is on the very high priority list. You might say Dunstan can do that, but I reckon this guy has more upside so went with him.

White could never play inside, pure outside player

@MadMondayShow - "both [Byrne-Jones & Wilson] suit needs I recon for tiges. Not a great fan of Wilson tho. Has potential but not sold on him"

‏@BrettAndersonIF - "At that pick, he is worth the punt. Could be a steal if he works a bit harder."

DBJ and Wilson will be great pick ups. Doubt DBJ is there and when was the last indigenous player we took in the main draft? Taylor? Sam Lloyd for pick 66.  :clapping
