« on: June 19, 2005, 02:23:19 AM »
*Home Game

Telstra Dome Form:

Wins:
Bulldogs by 4 points
*Port Adelaide by 56 points

Losses:
St Kilda by 68 points
Melbourne by 57 points
Kangaroos by 29 points
*Adelaide by 70 points

Compare this to our MCG Form:

Wins:
Hawthorn by 14 points
*Fremantle by 48 points
*Carlton by 85 points
Collingwood by 35 points

Losses:
*Geelong by 62 points
*West Coast by 2 points

Now i understand that we played better teams at the TD, but i don't like the look of that pattern!

Stuff the TD, let's play more games @ the MCG!

Dont have to do much to convince this little black duck.

Fact is Richmond agreed to play 3/4 home games at Telstra (Not sure when this finishes)..

Richmond claim they benefit by $100,000 every time they play a home match at Telstra with a smallish crowd MT or WP may be able to confirm numbers.

BUT In the near future I hope, playing these games back at the G may be the difference in playing finals and later on making the top 4 and getting HOME finals - Wouldn't this be of more financial benefit to Richmond in the long term  :thumbsup

We only agreed to play 4 home games at the Dome because the AFL were and would have made us play a minimum of 3 of our home matches there anyway. It was by a mile financially better for us to agree to play 4 home games at the Dome with the security that we would make money indepenedent of attendences or whoever we were playing rather than taking the risk we would lose dough if we were fixtured to play say Port, Freo and another low melb crowd side at the Dome. Remember you need a crowd of roughly 25-30,000 just to break even.

I wish all of our 11 home games were at the 'G too but blame the AFL and Ian Collins/Telstra Dome for it.

As for our form at the Dome: The first 2 years (2000-01) we hardly lost there. In fact after the Bombers IIRC we had the best record for wins. We lose there now (and the past 3 years) because we are crap and especially crap against top 8 sides. I'm going to savour that win over Port Adelaide we had because we've got buckleys chance now of getting within 10 goals of them come round 17 at Footy Park.

The Dons, Blues, Freo, Hawks and perhaps the Dogs matches to come are still winnable (and of course loseable as well) because they are very ordinary sides but as for the rest they are a class above us at the moment.

Thankfully it's not a 22 round beach footy competition Razor lol.

Seriously there were no excuses for yesterday. Excuses such as the Dome, injuries, etc just don't cut it anymore. Even if we had Gas, Richo, Chaffey and  Kellaway in the side we still would have had 10 blokes not playing to the level required. The result would have been the same at the 'G. We just didn't turn up to play and were beaten by a side who had 22 committed and hungry blokes who followed a direct long kick K.I.S.S. strategy. We were too busy collecting stats yet going nowhere.

Good sides not only don't let these things happen they don't get themselves in a position for them to happen. Losing one game unexpectedly shouldn't cost you a place in the finals. Just like in previous narrow misses of the finals we are just plain not good enough and our list is still poor. But that's not something we already didn't know.

Yes there were other things to do with the Carlton loss, but the stats don't lie, we suck at the Dome!

You take out a very lucky win against the dogs and a shock flogging of port (which we looked like we were going to get floggged in until Port stopped caring) and we haven't done nothing but get flogged there!

We use to have the second best record there in the Dome's first 2 years of existence but agree we have sucked there since. IMV  it's more an illustration of the lack of  skill and pace in our side which has been a problem all year. We have one of the lowest uncontested tallies in the AFL. Once the ball gets loose we get run off our feet even in games we've won. The Dome's sanitised conditions probably make this weakness stand out more than at other venues. Ironically the Blues despite their crap season until yesterday are one of the better sides at winning uncontested footy through Kouta and Stevens. Surprise surprise they cut us up yesterday as we applied no pressure whatsoever.
