I had given him 2 but added a point because he found the ground.

David Astbury - That grubber kick when he cramped in the thigh will stick in people's minds. Needs to play on tall forwards.

Jake Batchelor - Only 33% gametime for 4 possies. Is he coming back from an interrupted preseason?

Troy Chaplin - Solid for a preseason hitout. Blew out the cobwebs.

Trent Cotchin - When Cotch had the ball in traffic he showed his class but he didn't have it enough. Another who looked to be just going through the motions to blow
out the cobwebs.

Brett Deledio - It looked like Dimma experimented with him for a while as forward. Tried to lift us.

Aaron Edwards - Shocker. Missed two gettable goals finishing with 3 behinds for the night plus dropped a straightforward mark in the pocket.

Shane Edwards - Okay for the half he played.

Brandon Ellis - Disappointing for mine and had no influence. Another who looked like he was just running around in 2nd gear.

Nathan Foley - Solid overall although I thought he was more influential in the first half compared to the 2nd.

Ben Griffiths - At least lead and presented as a forward and wasn't too bad in the ruck. Something to build upon.

Shaun Grigg - Waits for WP's summary.  ;D

Shaun Hampson - Reasonable for the half he played without being anything to write home about.

Brad Helbig - Doesn't look like making it in what is likely to be his final year based on what he showed tonight and so far in his time with us.

Bachar Houli - Solid and one of our better players.

Ben Lennon - Did a few nice promising things early on but he looked stuffed in the second half. Got burnt defensively a few times. I would start him in the forward half but Dimma has in the past made first picks play in defence even if they get taught a lesson (eg: Conca on Milne).

Sam Lloyd - Not our worst and could have kicked 2 goals but for now the VFL is where he belongs.

Dustin Martin - We need him in the midfield and forward of centre where he can do the most damage. Don't play him in the backline Dimma!

Liam McBean - Kept committing the cardinal sin of losing his feet and going to ground too easily in the contest. Need to better than that Beany.

Kamdyn McIntosh - Failed to live up to the preseason training hype. Got burnt defensively.

Anthony Miles - Arguably our best player on the night. Put his name up for promotion off the rookie list.

Steven Morris - I actually thought Morro was one our better players. The problem was we didn't have another small defender who could go with the small but quick Melbourne forward line.

Chris Newman - Solid game before injurying his knee. Hope he's okay  :pray.

Alex Rance - Shocker by his standards. That last goal-costing contest where he went to ground against Howe summed up his night.

Orren Stephenson - Nothing we didn't know already. He's a tap ruckman and that's it.

Ty Vickery - Solid with 3 goals and attacked the contest most time. How he didn't get a free kick after getting whacked in the face from a Melbourne player coming the other way was just of the many perplexing umpiring decisions for the night.

Nick Vlastuin - Another who wasn't his usual influential self and looked like he was just out there to get some run into his legs and blow out the cobwebs.

All I can say is.....

Terrific, just terrific TM

Biggest disappointment for mine was Ellis! been told he's been the standout during the pre-season . He was terrible, appeared dis-interested and a few times stood back and refused to attack the contest. So disappointing

Ummmm.

It's the NAB challenge.

Everybody is commenting like we were playing for the 4 points.

People need to learn to put things into perspective.

Hawthorn won the premiership last year.  How many preseason games did they win in 2013?
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

On the contrary, result wasn't important, not fazed by it, just disappointed by the lack of interest and intent by so many players. Interestingly, the coach even mentioned it

Just as perplexing as how he gave away a free kick for blocking, when Melbourne players were doing it all night and didn't get pinged once. The umpires, like the blatantly biased, irritating commentators, seemed to be totally caught up in the fractured fairytale that was Paul Roos.

I'd be more worried if they showed intent and still lost.....The intent will be there round 1.  It has to be.
