I accidentally deleted my first post while scrolling on my phone. Anyway, did some digging into this Budapest Memorandum. While it appears to have been signed by Clinton it doesn't look like it was ratified by the US Senate. As much as it probably sucks for anyone in the Crimea, it will likely fizz out to be another Georgia/South Ossetia scenario.

Crimea people are mostly Russian / want to be Russian anyway. Cause they killed most the Tatars... but if Russia take a chuck of Ukraine or all - then china starts taking whatever countries they want...

The  countries above Ukraine part of the EU. So if Putin goes them too, its stuffed.

This is what I thought anyway. Didn't they just try and elect a pro-Russian government? I've always had the impression Russia just wants to get back some old Soviet territories containing ethnic Russians, just not to the extent of Germany pinching back old territory and ethnic German populations of the late 30s. Russia is a bear, always has been. It hibernates and then does what Russia does.
