Herald Sun
March 08, 2014 7:00PMJON RALPH rates this season’s AFL’s senior coaches from one to 18.
1. Alastair Clarkson (Hawthorn)
2. Ross Lyon (Fremantle)
3. Mark Thompson (Essendon)
4. Mick Malthouse (Carlton)
5. Paul Roos (Melbourne)
6. Chris Scott (Geelong)
7. John Longmire (Sydney)
8. Ken Hinkley (Port Adelaide)
9. Brendan McCartney (Western Bulldogs)
10. Brenton Sanderson (Adelaide)
11. Damien Hardwick (Richmond)WIN-LOSS: 44 per cent. 39 wins, 48 losses, two draws, one final.
HIS win-loss record is the second-worst of the non-expansion coaches and he hasn’t won a final. But consider where Richmond has come from under Hardwick. From basket case to future contender, the transformation is immense. When Richmond was 33 points up against Carlton, he was a coaching genius. There is unfinished business for Hardwick, who is following a similar progression to his mentor Clarkson.
Contracted until end of 2016.
12. Brad Scott (North Melbourne)
13. Nathan Buckley (Collingwood)
14. Guy McKenna (Gold Coast)
15. Leon Cameron (GWS Giants)
16. Alan Richardson (St Kilda)
17. Adam Simpson (West Coast)
18. Justin Leppitsch (Brisbane Lions)
