Troy Chaplin on SEN 12/03/2014 (audio and summary)

Troy Chaplin on SEN this morning with Andy Maher, Andrew Gaze and Dr Turf. [12.46mins]

AUDIO: https://soundcloud.com/sen1116/troy-chaplin-on-morning

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary:

* About all the fuss about Jack and Kingy:
We [the playing group] sort of laugh at it a little bit. The whole thing with Kingy, you just go, 'what are you doing, mate?'. So covered that off but we feel as a playing group that he really hasn't done anything too wrong. The Jack thing as well, like it can be a little bit frustrating because you know what he wants to do, he just wants to stop doing it for a while and just concentrate on footy. But unfortunately the media just want to follow him around and the vision of him running out of M-Sac the other day; he's been copping it. We've been saying 'mate you've been doing media for 10 years so why all of a sudden?'. But it's up to him. He wants to concentrate on his footy and the whole leadership group thing, that's not a reflection on him because if you know him, you know how passionate he is. And the article in the Herald Sun last week that Sam Edmund wrote was one of the best articles I've read. I mean, it gives you an insight into guys off-field and what they do and a lot of people wouldn't have known what Jack does off-field so it as great for him.

* Toby Mitchell thing?
I look at him and say 'Geez Geez!'. He's a pretty big unit. The only time we've seen him was when he came into the rooms. Club said never to happen again and Jake acknowledged he'd stuffed up at the time.

* King at the movies ...
* It's a new movie, Lone Survivor, it's a great movie, true story. I watched it on the way up to Wangaratta the other week and I told a few of boys to make sure they watched it. I got a phone call from a fellow team-mate, short fella, couple of tats, won't name names, initials Jake King. He rang me up and said he shed a bit of a tear in it. I said, 'what'. He goes, 'I shed a tear', so I loaded his locker up with tissue boxes. I'll probably cop one for this. He reckons he wasn't the only person that teared up. There might have been another media personality from a football show.

* Gold Coast game:
Haven't got a great record against them and obviously last year was the first time we had beat them. Haven't heard much about them over summer. Best player in the comp. on the Saturday night up there. So it's a little bit of a danger game but the boys are looking forward to it. We're confident as if you're not it's going to be a long year. Good to get convincing wins over Collingwood and Essendon leading into it. Preseason has been long and pretty full on so the boys are looking forward to get into it.

* Asked which fans are more feral - Tigers or Port?
I'll get into trouble no matter how I answer this. I can't believe how many supporters Richmond has after so long being crap. Credit to the supporters for hanging on despite the ninth place finishes etc.. Port has blue collar wharfy supporters. Talking to his ex-teammates he knows they are looking forward to moving to the Adelaide Oval.

* About Newman (who called Chaplin hairy when he was on SEN last week):
I didn't come up with the nickname 'Xavier Saviour'. I've told Newy that whenever I'm on radio I'm going to whack you. Did I tell that Newy put a golf ball in the clubhouse. He isn't welcome back [laughs]. He has the worst slice in golf.  Aims for the other fairway and still misses to the left of the fairway he wants to land on.

Just worry about getting a kick mate. Keep your dream alive on your back flank

Most important player.
