As my mail (real mail from someone at the club) told me a few years back, we would instruct our forwards lead to the pockets so if it there was a spillage, the ball would go out of bounds, so we could start again from a stopage.

This was in a Roar Vision video with who ever our forward coach was 2 or 3 years ago.
So my mail wasn't lying? Thanks for confirming. Didn't see the Roar Vision but maybe my mail did. Maybe he told the club so everyone knew. Anyway that was 2 or 3 years ago and it was on Roar Vision video and still we keep doing it. Maybe only you and my mail saw it but none of the other clubs did, well hopefully.  :thumbsup

Said very little of any substance, spoke in riddles and constantly used jargon to communicate.
Trying to sound knowledgable because he feels like a fraud?
Bit disappointing tbh.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Agree ^ Useless interview.

Damien keeps talking in circles.

I hope the players don't get fed that rubbish routine because if they are there's a reason we're running in circles.

Didn't watch it

Did record it on IQ but not sure if I'll bother watching it

After watching the interview and reading between the lines I think Hardwick might think we performed above ourselves last year and we are still a developing side so ups and downs are still a part of the immediate future. It's probably a fair assessment, really think a lot of supporters got ahead of themselves and have had a reality check given our start to the season.

Hope this is the case Lozza, because it is reality. I'm OK with that. What I'm not OK with is the recruiting top up policy that we have gone with the past few seasons. We are still in the building phase and need more kids to add to the mix. Have no issue with being a middle of the road side as long as we are building a incredibly solid foundation.

I hate seeing teams kick to pockets. Its awful to watch.

I hate seeing a vacant fwd line and player boot the ball towards the pocket and it goes out and its not deilberate based on some stupid opinion that there was 5% chance the player was shooting for goal. Everyone knows the players kick the ball to pockets to cause a stoppage and get their players forward to lock the ball in. Its awful

Do you really believe he would honestly tell the likes of Dunstal, Heally and Shehan if he had made an error is judgement with his game plan 'tweeks'? I doubt that very much.

I think that our dip in form is due to confidence which in turn is a drop in performance. The reduced performance is because of injuries to key players and our opposition shutting down our outside players. The fact that Dimma also made our uncontested ball use a focus over the preseason probably contributed to our poor start as it changed the players mindsets away from attacking run and carry football. This is the not the biggest factor in our poor start to the year - I believe the injuries and opposition defense/standard of play is the main reason - but Dimma should take responsibility for that portion of it at the very least.

In saying that, I would be disappointed if he admitted that error because it would give the media too much ammunition and could create a coach sacking media frenzie if our poor performances continued. We don't need external pressure at the club. Let the decisions be left for our administrators.

I think we will turn around our season from here but I don't think it will be enough

regardless of whether we are winning or losing taking any credence in what is being said to the media is just gullability at its highest level

:yep Yet we have been victim of pulling the trigger on our coaches due to prolonged media/supporter pressure for decades. We have been better with our last two coaches, to a degree, but clubs are giving longer contracts to players and coaches to avoid that very situation now days.

Disagree. I would be fine with Hardwick coming out and saying this is what we tried, this is why we tried it, it didn't work out, so this is how we're trying to rectify the situation. I don't think there would be any harm in that. Everyone makes mistakes. It's about how you fix them.
It's not like his mistakes are a secret to anyone.
I think beating around the bush with jargon is far more damaging than taking responsibility for his errors.

You might think that way and many of us do BUT the media would feast on his carcass.

You know Brad Scott of North Melbourne is very open and up front about where they make errors.  It makes you respect him as a coach.  It gives him credibility.  It also gives you an insight on how he is going about correcting the problem.

The problem with Dimma is, he keeps making the same mistakes and does not acknowledge them.   He likes to pass the buck.  There is no indication of any corrective action or anything to suggest he has any idea what is going on. He is just pigheaded.  His fake dishonest media interviews fuel the calls for his sacking more than anything else.  What motivation does a supporter have to get behind someone like this?

Scott likes the sound of his own voice and is positioning for a spot in the commentary box when he inevitably fails.
He's just a slightly smarter version of Terry Wallace.

Dimmas not a spin doctor - Wallace was a spin doctor. The interviewers were hell bent on getting a headline from him and force him to admit accountability. If the media and supporters would listen to such admissions in context I think more coaches and players would be more honest but we all know the media loves to grab a quote and create a sensational story/angle that suits their agenda. Its all about stirring up the football public and generating interest.

You can only imagine the stories they would write if he said something like - 'We have had our injury concerns this year which has forced us to make some structural changes to the side and our game plan. Not all of them have worked out. The opposition has defended us well and our confidence is low at this stage. I tried to make a few changes to the game plan to help us play a brand of footy that stands up better in the heat of finals but it hasn't worked out at this stage'

Headlines read - 'Hardwick admits mistakes':Damien Hardwick admitted in an interview last night that it was the changes he had made to the game plan this year that had caused the Tigers dramatic drop in form this year etc'
or
'Hardwick strips players of confidence'
or
'Dumb Dimma'
or
'Opposition works tigers out'

and so.....

You have to be so careful with the media because they are not there to be your friend as a coach. They are their to sell papers and generate ratings. Why do you think players are so lifeless and sterile when being interviewed now days?
