Richmond cheer squad member angry over ‘disgusting’ potato cakes bought at MCG matchHerald-Sun
May 05, 2014 5:37PMMCG caterers have copped a battering over “disgusting” potato cakes served to a Richmond fan.
Hungry Tigers cheer squad member Sharon Humphries shelled out $6 for a bag of three snacks during the weekend clash with Geelong.
When she returned to her seat, she discovered two were blackened and “inedible”.
The disgruntled supporter shared her distaste on social media, tweeting photos of the offending products.
“Two of them were very, very crispy and you would’ve thought they’d been sitting in the bain-marie for a week,” the Ashwood woman said.
“I bought them at an Epicure outlet in the Ponsford stand and didn’t go back to ask for a refund because I didn’t want to miss any more of the footy.
“They were burnt outside and black inside. I didn’t know how dodgy they were until I opened them.
“To get served up cr*p like this, you have to make a stand.”
Apologetic Spotless retail development manager Mick Birmingham agreed the images looked “terrible”.
He offered a “far better” experience at her next MCG game.
“While the staff in the outlet would have been unable to detect the internal quality of the product during cooking and service, the external colouring was far from satisfactory and should have never been presented for sale,” he said in an email response to Ms Humphries.
“We will use this as a clear example to our outlet teams of the importance of a strong visual inspection of all components prior to building and/or serving a product.”
The volunteer lawyer’s complaint comes amid an outcry over AFL food and variable ticketing costs.
