WP you need to look at the facts she doesnt know a thing about footy hence why Benny is fronting up to the media.

I dont like it. RFC is a poison chalice and we needed a strong president of the speed ilk,  not some lawyer who is out of her league.

Are you that naive to think that reason that Benny is pushed out in the front of the media is because the the president supposedly knows nothing about football?

Seriously I thought you were smarter than that Angus

Do you know the reason why they send Benny out to speak to the masses? It is because the Club knows that the members (vast majority) believe Benny no matter what, they trust Benny and that as a result best way of getting the members back on side is via Benny. That's why they do it. I can give you a number of examples of how they've done it over the last 4 years

You are making an assumption that the President isn't strong? Why because she is a woman? You make the assumption that Speed knows about football. Why because he's a man?

Yes Speed has a reputation in sports administration but part of that tenure included running the biggest "ttothless tiger" in sport the ICC . But how does that equate to "knowing about football" What makes you think he'd be doing anything any differently?

So please tell me what exactly needs to be done for you to see of this supposed strength that's needed? Sack the coach prehaps? Sack the CEO? Sack the entire footy department

The fundamental role of a director at a Footy Club is to oversee the running of the BUSINESS as a whole. It staggers me that people think that one person weilds so much power at a Club. President is only person amongst a collective. They don't have that much power.

I have no problem with people saying the president should be spruiking in the media, have no problem with folks saying she's not doing a good job (though not sure how anyone can judge after 6 months) but what I do have  problem with is people using gender as the justification of her not doing a decent job. And facts are that's what a number of people are doing because they keep raising the gender issue in every post about the President

She speaks and now matter what she says it seems a majority on here will ridicule her simply because she a woman. They wont listen so what's the point?

As president of our football club, if being a woman is the reason she isn't coming out on a the front foot and showing leadership to the fans, then maybe we have the wrong president.  Caroline Wilson, when asked what does Peggy brings to the table, the answer was stability.  A wooden post could give the same thing.  "I suppose she is working behind the scenes".  Even Wilson doesn't know what she is doing, that's how low her profile is.  The web chat was a filtered (and cowardly) disgrace.  Just because March was an idiot shouldn't excuse every future president from speaking publicly.

We need to know what she stands for, we need to know that she bleeds every much as we do, we need to know what steps she (as the president of this great football club) has taken to correct our performances and ensure accountability in future performances, we need to know that she has a plan to bring us our next premiership.

I understand your point William, but with the soft performances this club is dishing out, a soft president is not what this football club needs. As a woman, she has twice the motivation to get out there on the front foot and demonstrate why she was the right choice for this football club and not just tokenism.  Respect is earned.

Benny's voice is lost in rhetoric.  A strong voice is needed now more than ever.

and she's not 100% focusing on the job because she's a lawyer during the week

Really? Why because she's a woman?

What a load of crap  >:(

So are you going to apply this to every other President in the AFL who has a job or interests outside of footy? Like Eddie with his radio, TV, Brayshaw same, Koch; his TV and investment speaking engagments, Peter Gordon who's a lawyer too, Kernahan and his Stockbroking stuff etc .. they aren't focusing on the job either or are you just going to limit it to ours?

Our former president had a career/business interests outside football and you never raised it about him

Please those are all easy jobs. Peggy's is the most challenging, I reckon she should quit her day job and focus on the tigers until we start delivering

I said Gordon is a lawyer as well but his job as a lawyer is easier and not as challenging? Explain that

Oh and BTW, I think you will find that she doesn't work full time (certainly isn't a partner anymore) and is mainly a consultant so what's your next point

I don't think it gender has anything to do with her not speaking. I believe it's club driven by those in the media dept.

As I said the Club wheels out Benny because they know the vast majority believe and trust Benny. They see it as a way to get the fans back onside. Unfortunately what the club needs to realise is that it isn't working anymore

But I do stand by what I said that if she did speak it wouldn't be enough because as posts on this subject are proving it appears to be about gender and nothing she does or doesn't do is going to be acceptable

I reckon you make some great points in your post but for me I don't want to hear more words. They mean very little to me now, I want to see actions because talk is cheap. She can tell us all the things we want to hear but it means little right now. Strong leadership isn't just about the words, it's about actions and how she steers us through this mess and how we come through it will define her presidency not what she says or doesn't say IMHO

I agree William but the club is breeding an us against them mentality.  Its not Richmond V arch rivals Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon.  Its Richmond V Supporters with the dribble they have been dishing up all season.  It might take some time before we see any action.  In the meantime, some words wouldn't hurt.  The right words might even inspire some action.

So...
I have no issue with the fact the president is a female.
I have no issue that the president has been quiet either, as WP said th3 majority believe Benny and hold onto his word.
It wouldnt make sense for both to be running their mouths at the same time.

Personally I would have loved to have seen a president like Neil Balme or even a Kevin Sheedy (whoa, waiting for the backlash there) but Peggy has been put in pkace to be president so we have to back her in and give her an opportunity to do here job, which im sure she is capable of..

Our on field issues are not because Peggy is the president
