Barry Hall says Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt can reinvigorate his career if he moves clubs

PREMIERSHIP spearhead Barry Hall believes it is time for Jack Riewoldt to move to a rival club to reinvigorate his career.

Riewoldt has kicked 41 goals in 15 games this season and was equal third on the Coleman Medal tally entering this round.

But with Richmond trying to develop new avenues to goal and Riewoldt at times hounded by the media over his antics, Hall wonders if it would be best for him to head elsewhere.

Riewoldt last year signed a three-year contract extension, showing his loyalty by knocking back a huge offer from Fremantle.

Fellow Tigers forward Tyrone Vickery has been thrown up by commentators as trade bait, and triple-club goalkicker Hall says Riewoldt should consider a move.

“I think Jack would be better at another club. I think he needs a fresh start,’’ he said.

“He needs to almost wipe or eradicate some of the things he has had in the past. To go to another club, it has to be the right fit for him, and to go to a club with a really strong culture where it’s all about team, that would be a good place to move for him.”

Asked on Radio Sports National if Fremantle would be a good option, he replied: “Definitely. 100 per cent. They are very strong in culture. It’s not about individuals. I think he would thrive in a place like that. He probably wouldn’t kick as many goals but in terms of the development of Jack Riewoldt and team success, it would be a great move.”

Riewoldt has long professed his love of the club, but has drawn heat for a media ban and his clumsy exit from the club after being censured by coach Damien Hardwick for criticising team tactics.

The Tigers are certain to stick with him but must make hard decisions on a host of middle tier players.

The likes of Matt Arnot, Jake Batchelor, Matt Dea, Brett O’Hanlon, Aaron Edwards, Brad Helbig, Jake King, Orren Stephensen and former captain Chris Newman will all have their futures considered at season’s end.

Captain Trent Cotchin this week signalled his decision to sign another long-term contract with the club when his deal expires at the end of 2015.

Hall believes Riewoldt needs a circuit-breaker for his career, even if he does not realise it.

“We have seen it even from my point of view, I went to Sydney and it was the best thing I have ever done. Sometimes you can get stale without even realising it in a football club.

“You love the place and want to reward the people who gave you the chance, but it can deteriorate. I think Jack is at that stage.”

Riewoldt to Footscray for their first pick.

Riewoldt to Footscray for their first pick.

Add Bontimpeli or Jackson McCrae to that.
We are talking about a two time Coleman Medallist.
Pillage and destroy.
All they have is Crameri and a poster of Simon Beasley.

Like that is going to happen anyway.

We'd enquire about Lin Jong, Jason Johanissen and Vickery's footy soul mate in Jarrad Grant. :help

We might have to chuck in Shankwards to get it over the line.

Shankwards is a cornerstone to our side. He is going nowhere. Just signed a 2 year deal and doesn't run one way like Martin does. Personally I don't know if Titch runs at all and what direction it is but he is a pillar to our mediocrity and he is locked in long term. :-\

If Jack actually made the most of his opportunities and kicked even a little more efficiently then he wouldn't be discussed as being stale, Jack is getting a lot of opportunities but kicking poorly for a key forward this year.

Do your homework Barry

Maybe his poor kicking for goal is a result of a lack of concentration because he has gone stale?

Spot on Torch. Hall references Fremantle as a place with a good team first culture, yet it wasn't that long ago that they were a basket case like us. As much as I despise Lyon's tactics, there's no denying what a change of coach did for them. We would however need a bloody good coach to change the scmidt culture which is set in stone over 32 years.

Considering that Jack as a contracted player can't be traded unless he agrees and that he wouldn't agree

Reckon it's fair to say Jack aint going anywhere

Jack would be a bloody success at our club if he was coached properly, played where he is most damaging, had a structure to support him and had players delivering the ball to him better than they do now!!!!!
DIMMA - You will be held ACCOUNTABLE...

Players can reinvigorate at their own club if they want to!

Dimma is a moron.
In a side full of kids, Lids and duds left over from previous regimes he kicked 78 goals.
Four seasons on the motus operandi has changed to  lets keep persisting with Vickery and sharing the ball around and try and walk the ball in or when we can't lead into the pockets and try our luck from angles.

How effortless did he look at times in 2010 and I'd go this far and say that he started on his Coleman quest that year in the Dreamtime game when he kicked six (although he did kick 4 in the three point loss to Hawthorn the week before). Round 9 it was, so in 14 games I would say he kicked 70 goals and given our inexperience in the first 7 games when we were compared to Fitzroy in their last season, he would have kicked 100 that year or at least got well into the 90's.

In any event this sharing and caring for your teammate has gone too far. When I see Dusty get to 50 and go short when he can kick it 70 on the run because it is team rules, yet other can't hit a target 20 metres away or hit a stationary target that is manned up then you know this coach has no idea and neither do his coaching staff.

Contracts expire eventually and you said it yourself, a trade could be facilitated if agreed on. Fair discussion
