Boak bristles at Chaplin's passion after goal

PORT Adelaide skipper Travis Boak has taken a swing at Richmond defender Troy Chaplin and his passionate celebrations late in Sunday's 20-point win over the Power.

The former Power backman contributed to his former club's demise, kicking two crucial goals in the final quarter and making no effort to hide his elation.

Chaplin grabbed at his Richmond jumper and then ran with his arms outstretched like the wings of an airplane when he booted a goal to end any chance of a Port comeback at Etihad Stadium.

The win was obviously sweet for Chaplin but Boak pointed out the Tigers were still languishing in 12th spot on the ladder despite three consecutive victories.

"They were winning so I guess he can do what he wants, but I hope he's enjoying the year they're having," Boak said on Monday.

Speaking on AFL.com.au's Access All Areas, Garry Lyon also took aim at the Tigers defender.

Fellow Access All Areas host Damian Barrett described Chaplin's actions as "contrived passion".

"I didn't like either, I have to be honest," Lyon said.

"If you're going to be consistent throughout that sort of stuff, he might have ripped his jumper off on a couple of occasions earlier this year when he wasn't quite getting the job done, old Troy."

Chaplin showed plenty of raw emotion after kicking both his goals against Port.

“I don’t even know what it was.  I probably looked like an absolute idiot,” Chaplin explained to the ‘Herald Sun’ about his goalkicking celebrations.

“To the boys’ credit, we played a bloody good side and to get the win is great.

“I had the match-up on Westhoff and the call was made to go and tag him, and I was able to isolate at stages and it worked out pretty well.

“I was able to kick a couple at a pretty important time.  The first (celebration) was about emotion and the second one I didn’t even know I had kicked it.  I picked it up and put it on my (right) boot.

“The win meant a lot to me and the boys because of the way this year has gone.  We had built this game up to be a big game.”

Played a great role. There is more pressure on Port now that we beat them. They are not 100% to make the finals so Boak can think about that.  ;D

I reckon he was doing it as a bit of play towards Matty White who did the same thing a few weeks ago when he kicked a goal, grabbed his jumper the same way! No mention of that on the Monday by the two flogs as it doesn't generate the interest Richmond does.

I say good on him, damned if you do and damned if you don't

Jack at the end of the game came right to the wing after the siren and pulled on the jumper to the roar of the Richmond crowd.

Bojo, doesn't it go "pull the other one, Boak it plays jingle bells?"
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

To be honest I didn't like it either and I think it is actually symptomatic of the weakness in attitude that was demonstrated yesterday.

Chaplin's celebration, the 'dedicated to the fans' stuff, the RFC social media outpourings all show a club and a playing group that has not absorbed the sheer failure of the season they have produced, and instead can forget it all with one better performance.

All that does is show me nothing much has been learnt.
Who isn't a fan of the thinking man's orange Tim Fleming?
