I would of waited until season end first before making the call, but I dont mind, I thought he has been good in the past few weeks, could go into the forward pocket next year and do some damage.

Depends on the coin and if he is gifted senior games.  Would think he may be valuable in our VFL team teaching the youngsters.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

No. Shouldn't have even been offered.

The last point is probably irrelevant since we could sign him on as a VFL listed player

Not quite. If we get a few injuries down back, he wouldn't be able to come up as a VFL listed player....

Considering our lack of decent depth, I'm happy for him to go around again. As long as like someone else said, he gets games on performance not name.

Is RFC serious about list management ? Not only is this decision premature it is even more difficuly to justify !

Cooked, best is well & truly behind him.

Has he ever finished top 3 in the b&f over his 12/13 year career ?

Has been a very servicable player to get to 250 games, however the future is now and Newman is yesterday's man.

That has more to do with the gifted seniors point and a point you missed about him providing depth. If teaching our youngsters in the VFL is why we kept him he could of be signed up as VFL listed

I see the "for" side of the argument but what kills me is this guy can come back after injury at his age, straight back into the ones, he's sooo stuffn slow, he ALWAYS makes costly mistakes in defense, usually kicking short from the square.....man, the list goes on...and this is what the club tells us is Richmond thru and thru.

He's not a good average player, he's an average player but by all accounts an excellent bloke.

Sorry but excellent blokes don't necessarily equate to successful footballers.

It's been quite the charmed existence.
Half his luck.

I have no idea why he has been given another contract, its like the club and he can't confront his obvious shortcomings.

I don't get it.

Until 2012 I felt his legacy was positive at the club, now I think he is perpetuating the selfish "me man" culture that many of his teammates brought to the club in the last 15 years.

It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Absolutely! You need experience on a list, he will be our only player over 30 next year and whilst he is contributing then his experience is invaluable.
