Ceiling Peaked..
« on: September 07, 2014, 05:06:52 PM »
Absolutely humiliated aside.

Today has completely proven the same issues we had at 3 and 10 The side we have at its best is a mid table team. Take the E. Option out if it and the 10 wins in a row was great and making the 8 was an impressive achievement from where we were.

Can anyone honestly think that without change we will improve to be a top 4 team. That natural development will get us there? No chance.

Can only hope the club moves on from the 'finals' at all cost. Our bottom 10 needs to be cleaned out. 2 years in a row we've been embarrassed in finals. Club needs to look after us..

Plenty of damaged goods after this.

Houli
Grigg
Morris
Petterd
Newman
Foley

Reckon we could carry a Morris type if we had some better players as he can do a job, but when it's Houli and Newman carrying him we have to many weak links

How do we improve is a very good question.

Way to many slow types on the list.
Not enough run and carry.
Not enough X-Factor.
Not enough genuine A grade talent.

We won't improve to a top 4 side until this team gets a lot more class about it.
Spend the dollars and take some risks at the draft table Richmond.
Safe does not win flags. We're not going anywhere with the list as it is.

Totally agree - we must take risks or we'll be talking about the same thing for the next 5-10 years.

This draft/trade period gives us a great opportunity to clean out GWS of some more talent.

Agree. We need to improve the list to develop the side into a genuine finals contender. We need more depth. Players such as Grigg and Houli have reached their peak of development and we need to look elsewhere to get improvement out of this side. Would prefer they draft quality young players this year and then when there is more options regarding free agency to splash the cash.  We need leg speed-quality ball carriers. We need a genuine tagger and we need a quality small forward who has the x factor.

Its from this position that good clubs take stock, make the necessary changes/improvements required to take the next step. A hawthorn or Geelong would identify who they need and go out and make it happen, hope we do too

Explanation - RFC Perpetually over rates it's draft picks, both pre draft and while at the club.
Too ignorant and stubborn to admit they have nfi,

As u say -  none of those duds r gonna play good finals footy

At least we played finals (or a final of sorts) but we do need to add to our A graders to go further in september,  pretty much every list does eccept the swans, hawthorn and depenfing on your opinion freo.  Id like a decent kpp in ddefense to add to Rance and Chaplin and Grimes (when hes there along with Astbury).  Id also like a skilled kick ditributor in defense replacing Newman.  The problem with my request is it takes 4 years to get the games into those players from the draft.

Next year I hope we get 22 games out of Astbury and Grimes and we will probably see how good they will be. Both will be around the 50 to 60 game mark and should start influencing games.  If we do get that and no other key players injuries our defense should improve to the point we play finals again you would think.

Oh I should add Im of the opinion we are on the right path. From utter crap to two finals in a row. We just used to lose those critical games and come 9th.

agree tdy - 3 years ago if you asked me if I'd take 2 finals series in a row even if it meant losing both finals I'd have said hell ye.

Just need to build on it now, really hope the club has the balls to make it happen

2 Finals in 2 years shows the overall attitude is changeable
but unfortunately it comes down to personnel, an area in which
our deficiencies are huge.

We can get there(finals) but sticking around at the party is a whole other level.
Facts are, Carlton,North and Port are all capable of understanding the leap from
home and away to finals footy and can adjust, making it through to at least,
the second week.

The Tigers look like a vfl side that scored a wildcard.
Anyone notice in Newmans warm up interview(where he was miked up)
his voice sounded like he was pooting his pants and had NFI idea
of how to negate the pressure.
That's poor leadership.
When a 250 gamer is looked upon as a benchmark for how to deal with things
and pre final, he's flat out trying not to spew with anxiety, then there's an issue.

The RFC needs 3-4 ready made stars in addition to what it has to be a top four side
let alone a genuine finals contender.

It was fun watching them win nine on the trot but it was too little, too late.
3 and 10 proves the list has gaping holes.
Caracella and Balmey.

We are just taking a bit too long to get the chess pieces on the board.  I agree we have some big gaps in the list, I don't think we can patch them all to be playing a granny any time soon.  Having said that, we did find a gem this year in Miles.  Griff might get enough games in him to become what we all thought he might.  The Stringbean and Lennon are two promising players to come in yet too.
