Tigers Slash 7 from list (AFL WEBSITE)
« on: September 09, 2014, 02:24:09 PM »
RICHMOND has acted quickly following its elimination final defeat, cutting seven players from its list, including forward Aaron Edwards.

Brett O'Hanlon and Brad Helbig have also been delisted, as well as rookies Orren Stephenson, Ben Darrou, Cadeyn Williams and Todd Banfield.

They join retiring pair Jake King and Daniel Jackson in leaving the club.

"We’d like to thank all of these players for their hard work during their time at the Richmond football club," football manager Dan Richardson said.

"They have each made their own contribution to the club and we wish them all the best in their future endeavours."

Predictable and soft.

No surprises there. None of them were playing senior footy this year and weren't going to be part of our future.

You'd expect now we will go after another ruckman to put on our rookie list.

The question now is will we continue with the moneyball recruiting of mature rookies or go back to using the rookie list to develop youngsters who miss out in the National Draft?

Hard to delist a player who is contracted for another year  ;).

Predictable and soft.
Any 'names' won't be offloaded until the trade period (if they will be). Today is for the predictable ones.

Disappointed about Darrou but knew it was coming - can't re-rookie again and they weren't going to upgrade him yet....maybe we can put him on the VFL list with a hope of winning a senior spot in 2016 if he keeps improving and no-one picks him up first.
Relieved Arnot is still there - unless there's another lot of axings still to come.

The rest are no great loss.

Because most of the duds in the one's are still contracted and we have to let Newy hobble around for a farewell tour. List management at it's finest.

Is there a more insincere testimonial on offer, anywhere?

I suppose its not so much who we get rid of but more who we replace them with. If we get 7 quality replacements that at least knock on the door of the AFL side then at least we see some tangible improvement with the list. As many have said we need leg speed and football smart players, hardworking all rounders are a necessary part of a top 4 team but without the gamebreakers you just stay as a middle of the road side. Need to get more creative with our recruiting and nab the next Polec or Miles without losing much ourselves unless we can put out some bait out there and catch a bigger fish.

That's nine spots up for grabs with 5 senior spots and 4 rookie spots.
I'm not sure if it's worth having more than 6-7 kids drafted with 2-3 rookies and/or free agent/trades.
I reckon we will trade 1 or 2 players so the overall change to the list will be reasonable significant.
