I'm hoping and praying that he doesn't turn out to be a one year wonder. Keep.

Keep him, however i'd be hesitant to give him a 2 year deal.

Pettifer = poor mans Nathan Brown.
95% of AFL players = poor man's Nathan Brown.  ;D

I reckon he's our best kick behind his good mate Brett Deledio. Kayne wears his heart on his sleeve and busts his guts. He has been persevered with through 3 1/2 years of slow development, and now that perseverence is being rewarded it seems crazy to me to even remotely contemplate not keeping him. He's one we've developed at our club and I want him to stay.

I reckon they'll offer him 2 years and he's probably earned it.

You could argue that it's amazing how he's played this season compared to the last 4 but then again when you think about it maybe it's not so amazing after all .............. :lol

But having said that we should give him 2 years I reckon you have to think that with the number of blokes coming out of contract at the same time we have to be careful in what we offer in terms of number of years. I don't think it's smart to give them all 2 years nor do I like idea of giving too many 3 year deals. IMO we need to stagger them out bit and give a few of them 1 year deals only

they should give him 2 but if they gave him 3 it would not bother me.  i saw his potential from the beginning, tezza did too. spud was a dud and had no idea how to develop him.
now lets see, petts is a great mark, has a very accurate and long kick, always tries his guts out, always tries to tackle and put on defensive pressure and is a naturally gifted footballer.he just needed to be given the chance and stability! spud screwed him over and i know 4 a fact that spud hated petts and wanted to ruin him , and it showed by the way he was coached. petts also has the abiluity to play down back if needed in the future.  this kid has copped it left right and centre thanx to spud and thank god tezza saw his assetts and potential and gave him the confidence and chance.
how namy players in our team to we have with all petts assetts???? he will develop into a gr8 player, 30 goals in his 1st full season is an awesome effort, and we still have a game to go

A 2 year deal is fair....although if Krak warranted a 3-year deal then Pets probably deserves an 8-year deal to see his career out at Tigerland.

I reckon that equates to Deledio getting a 25 year deal om21 ;D

I'm just not a big believer in "breakout" years, i think a player needs to do it 2 years in a row before it should be considered a "breakout".

Agreed Razor.

Last year Krakouer had a good year and now everyone wants to turf him to Siberia. Pettifer has shown one good year in 5. Let's not forget that.

A standard 2 year deal for Pettifer should suffice. On the radio he appeared to be happy if he gets a new contract. IMO 3 year contracts should only be handed out to consistent long-term quality performers. If in 2 years time he is still kicking 30+ goals per year as a small forward then you might consider the next contract to be 3 years.

Definatly keep Petts. Have to agree with many posters that he has improved immensly over the season. It looked at the beginning that he had low confidence and the fact that he has been able to stabilize himself, enabled him to concentrate on his football without worrying whether or not he has upset the coaching staff. Give him 2 years. I don't think anybody knows his true potential. Next year will show that.

I don't know if he's proven himself, but it's been a lot better return than his performances of the last few years.
