when was the last time the club actually targeted a player or players  in the nd, knew he they were a gun and actually traded into a better pick to give em the best chance to get good crack at said players .is there an instance of this ever happening.

We finished 13th in 1997 after winning 4 of the last 5 after Geisch took over as coach from Walls. We missed the Final Eight in the end by just half a game  :P.

Melbourne were wooden spooners that year and received a priority pick. So they initially had the first two picks in the draft. Fremantle then traded Jeff White to the Dees for pick 2 and then on-traded that pick to us for Chris Bond & our pick 21. We then drafted Ottens with pick 2 after Melbourne selected Travis Johnstone.

I can't recall any ever ?
To be fair though it's not as easy to do when you're an ordinary team coz you don't have any half decent players that another club would want. Some pretty good players get squeezed out of good clubs but over the past 20 years other than our few top tier players most of our blokes would've been lucky to command third round pick.
