Which team do you think is best placed?
« on: October 20, 2014, 10:04:59 AM »
If you had to choose one club to follow in the next 3 years, who would it be, conversely who would you be least excited about?

Collingwood
Richmond
Bulldogs
Essendon
Eagles

All the above clubs have limitations and opportunities at their club.

"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

I added the Blues as they also cleaned up in trade week

I think the next 3 -4 years will still be dominated by the likes of hawks, Sydney and even putting port in there.....
Collingwood are on the ropes and this couldn't be greater
Richmond who knows what we are going to deliver :banghead :banghead
bulldogs there pinning there hopes on an 18 year old and still high hopes with cameria please wont play finals in the next 3-4 years :gobdrop
Essendon just like Richmond who knows  :rollin :rollin
eagles well they should be primed for a run at a least a top 8
 :thumbsup

probably us - but beyond that pies have a shedload of bluechip talent theyre drafting - whether they come on is another thing but youd like to have a crack to the extent they are with early picks last year and this year.

Blues list has many holes in it

bombres are stuffed

doggies have lots of midfield talent but little else

eagles bookends are pretty good - midfield talent needs to improve

Pies
us
Eagles
Doggies
blues
dons

I 100% agree, Collingwood has done exceptionally well with there drafting the last couple of seasons while only really cutting away dead wood.
Beams will be missed greatly in the short term but 3-4 years from now expect to see them right back in amongst it.
I honestly believe our list is just about to hit its prime as well. We certainly need to see allot of natural improvement in allot of younger players but I certainly feel we need to make a couple of big moves in the next couple of free agent / trade periods. Getting this right in the next 3 years will either make or break the club.

I reckon you've nailed it Tony. I agree with pretty much all of that. Collingwood has high picks like Scharenberg ( 6 ) and Freeman (10) who we haven't seen yet and they've got a couple of good picks again this year. Pick # 5 plus pick 9 ( Darcy Moore ) They'll miss Beams but getting Ben Reid and Nathan Brown back will help them.
Maybe I'd put the Eagles slightly above us ? These interstate teams seem to have the capacity to rise back up the ladder quickly. Home ground advantage always helps too.

In your opinion.
Anyhow I didn't say they were. My point was that the interstate teams seem to be able to go from ordinary one season to good the next. Remember it wasn't that long ago that West Coast received priority picks from the AFL. The following year they finished top 4 !!
Here ya go.
West Coast ladder positions in recent history >

2006 - 1st
2007 - 3rd
2008 - 15th ( 2nd last )
2009 - 11th
2010 - 16th ( last )  awarded priority draft picks by the AFL
2011 - 4th
2012 - 5th
2013 - 13th
2014 - 9th

So , as you can see Phil they have the propensity to go up and down the ladder very quickly.

Only because they rolled out the tank harder than anyone else once they lost a senior player to injury and a flag was outta the question. Now they are genuinely poo.  ;D

The whole drug saga had a huge impact at the Eagles, I wonder how many years that has set them back.
I also wonder about the Bombers, no wonder they're picking up mature aged players because who the hell would want their kids at that club?
