Internal recruits: The players who will return from long-term injuries in 2015
Ben Waterworth

November 03, 2014

THE recent AFL exchange period and upcoming national draft gives clubs the perfect opportunity to bolster their lists with recruits who suit their needs.

But sometimes they don’t have to look too far in order to strengthen their chances of success for the next season.

Nearly every club has a hardluck injury story each year, with players forced to miss extended periods of time due to frustrating, long-term issues.

We’ve gone through each club and nominated its “internal recruits” — the important players who will return to the field in 2015 after missing the majority, or entirety, of the 2014 season.

RICHMOND

David Astbury is one of the most promising young defenders in the competition. But his second serious knee injury, suffered in Round 9 this year, halted the consistency and momentum he’d worked so hard to build up. Astbury is set to undertake a full pre-season and return to the footy field in 2015.

This will be great if he can come back and display what he did before the injury!! Will really strengthen our backline with an inform Rance and Grimes its an exciting prospect.

Big IF around that. OX came back from a couple of knee recos but other players don't and when the Ox came back he couldn't leap so he became a wrestler instead t as full forward at that time it was ok having a stay at home ff. Not these days. Let's hope for the best but plan for the worst with Astbury.

Agree - way too much faith being placed in Astbury's return IMO. Need more backline depth. At the very least we need to replace Darrou on the rookie list.

 :yep

Until he gets injured again. Expect him to either be delisted or retire at the end of next year.

You mean 18 disposals, 0.7 goals and a soft tissue injury
