It makes me laugh when people talk about what a player is getting paid. No one would have any idea what anyone is on. The media just makes this poo up.
Cotch is a star and a quality person and will do the best for the club.

The media lying about Boyds contract then is it  ?

No one appears to be saying he isn't a star.

Just that other stays take50% of market value, so ythe club can win the flag rather than them buying a third home.

If we pay everyone what they are worth- we wont win a flag due to players getting squeezed out / no money for free agent. Ala the selwood and hodge examples

Difference with all those blokes and Cotchin is they are not the best players in their teams.

Well Selwood probably is now but wasn't when he signed.
Don't think cotchin is light years ahead of lids/rance IMO

Don't think hodge, selwood were far off the best players at repsectivr clubs

Not sure how Boyd came into the conversation but again the media wouldn't have any idea on how his contract is set up.. And more importantly neither do nuffy supporters.
You talk about contracts of players like you know what you are talking about but like most  you have NFI.
Cotch is a Tiger through and through and deserves everything he gets from this club. He could choose any club and go there but I bet you he stays put.
But I'm sure you know better.  :lol

so what's a fair price BT? You sit there slagging off nuffy supporters but the reason it is discussed is bc there is a salary cap and if too much gets blown on a few players then our chances of landing a free agency gem go out the window - interestingly you were one of the most outspoken about our inability to land a big fish at seasons end. You talk as if we should sign him for whatever price he names bc he deserves it - if that affects our ability to land a big name at the end of 2015 im sure you'll be the first to lay the boots in - cant have your cake and eat it mate.

and FWIW the industry has a fair idea on what players are on, agents speak to clubs and both agents and clubs speak to journos about other players - not hard to get a fair idea

You miss the point. Bt

Yes hes a gun
Yes is market value is a lot

But he should accept 50% so list can be retained and improve as hodge and Mitchell did

The media are claiming the highest paided player the dogs are paying next season is... Ryan griffin

Boyd was raised cause his contract has very discussed a lot recently.

Both this claims contradict your  claim. "No one would have any idea what anyone is on.". It seems that indeed someone does know what some are on. And if it is indeed correct, logic would lead us to the conclusion that if people have idea what Griff and Boyd are on. They might have some idea about Richmond, too

A contract can be set up in so many different ways. To pluck a figure for one season is just to simplistic. But if I had to I'd say 2mil over 3 years. IMO he is our best player and the player we can least afford to loose. He would get offered more than that at other clubs but I think that would be fair. It's one thing for supporters to say he should take only 50% of what he is worth but would you? He is a very gifted player and probably has 10 good years of footy in him, why should he take that big a pay cut?
And what if he does and doesn't win a flag?
Let's be honest, all clubs just use you until they don't need you anymore. Geelong is often brought up saying clubs should do what there players have done, but in reality they get what they can out of their players then move them on when they want to. Chapman and Hunt are two examples of the last couple of years. Both would have been paid less than what they were worth but when it suited Geelong they were out the door.  At least they got a flag or three.
But what if you were one of the Saints boys and you have forfeited big sums of money for the lure of a flag that never came. How do you think some of their boys would be thinking now?
Clubs want the players to have all the loyalty but when the club wants to go another way they have none themselves.
I don't rate free agency the way it is at the moment but I'm glad it favors the players a bit more now. It should be free for the players to be able to move after so many years of service, not free for the club he chooses. Hawthorn should have to give up something if they want Frawley at their club. And other clubs shouldn't be pushed down the draft order for it to happen.

Again it's the media claiming what you have mentioned?? Are you that thick?
Your post is ridiculous..
I just stated the media would have no idea what anyone is on, and you come back with what the media thinks two players are on.

BT, I'd be very happy with $2m over 3 years  :thumbsup
if I was a Saints player - I'd be disappointed in the outcome but would've thought it worth the risk. 3 grand finals and and unlucky bounce/tentative move by Milne cost them a flag.
You need an ounce of luck to win a flag and they missed out at a crucial moment.
Similarly a so called genius toe poke cost them another.
Two ounces of luck and they may have had 2 flags.
And but for that, they might still have had their coach and their stars.
Who knows, the toe poke doesn't happen, Cats lose and Goddard stays and Stevie J goes
The point is, players stay because they believe and the value of playing for a flag is what keeps clubs together.
I agree with you - Cotchin and most probably Rance and Dusty will resign.
I'm just hoping we can get a finals win this year and land a big catch in the off season  :pray
