Recruitment Zone: Panel show ep:3

Bingle presents: General Manager of football, Dan Richardson, previews the 2014 National Draft.

VIDEO: http://www.richmondfc.com.au/video/2014-11-24/recruitment-zone-panel-show-ep3

Summary

* 60 players on our list for draft night and have been watched by our recruiting staff 20 times each.

* Pick 12? - There's 3-4 players we hope to be there. Still seems to be a debate over how the top 10 will actually pan out. GWS & Collingwood picks will play a big role in that. No matter how it turns out, we are still confident a good player will be available at our pick, particularly in terms of midfield depth we are trying to fill.

* Player rating system - based on a criteria involving match reports, psych reports, draft camp ratings and comparisons from other years and other players of similar type. Certainly, a lot of information on our database that goes into now our recruiting staff to come up with a collective rating for each individual player. The latter is what has been happening over the past month or so and Dan Richardson said he himself has sat in on that. FJ, Blair and their team have done a power of work and go into Thursday night's draft well prepared.

* We go through various scenarios before the draft so on the night when a particular scenario comes up, you're prepared with what decision to make. As the draft unfolds the type of player you pick with an earlier selection may affect what type of player you choose later on.

* After being drafted Thursday night, the young draftees will be on a plane Saturday with their team heading to Townsville for the preseason camp. A week away is the best way to get to know your new teammates.

is he saying we will only be looking at mids at 12?? sure seems that way to me.if this is correct then they are bloody fools. i will be watching keenly to see what talls will be there at 12.

do they soley rely on their formula. i mean to say the formula said conca a few yrs ago but the obvious one who didnt meet that formula as much as conca did  was heppell. at what stage do they say hey no we must go with this bloke based on what we have seen backed up by formula that is slightly less impressive.

imo when you look at kids play the single greatest assett you have is your eyes and ability to translate what you see  to upside and ability to perform at the top level.

to me our formula doesnt work and we religiously stick to it no matter what we see  rather than it being a good guide to what we see.

Thank goodness  RFC put a lot of thought and efforts and pay people with relevant experience to make the hard decisions, imagine who we would pick if we had a straw poll  :cheers

Lets do a straw poll on who people want to draft with the first pick - have to realistically name players that may be there, no point putting up Petracca and co.

I also think Richardson comes off as a very calm and calculated operator. Think he is growing into the job and will become a very valuable asset for our club.

Weller 1st then Duggan 2nd then Ahern as my 3rd pick at 12

Let's be honest we couldn't do much worse considering we have been the worst preformed team over the last 30 years. The only way is up.
Cannot believe anyone would want to defend the people that have run this club 'on field' over that time.
Unless you support us you think we are a laughing stock. People feel sorry for us. And that's disgusting..

never a truer word. i know several tiger supporters who have far better records than the club even looks like achieving.
ive never understood the need for tiger supporters to defend people with such poor records just because they work for the club.

Sorry, but far better records doing what ? surely you aren't comparing someone guessing the draft order to someone who actually works full time in the environment & pick their selections as per their particular club criteria
