Everything bar his kicking for goal is,

His decision making looks very poor to me. Might improve with experience, but not up to AFL standard at the moment.

The stats, ie kicking goals, tackles would suggest otherwise, I'd argue that if he improved his goal kicking he'd be an elite small fwd already. 19 goals 16 is pretty handy for someone not up to AFL standard wouldn't you think?

No, I wouldn't think. I don't have a problem with his skills, although his kicking in general (not just for goal) could certainly be better. He finds the footy often enough for sure and I like the tackling, pace and pressure.

But I just don't think his decision making is that good. I certainly don't think his decision making is at the required level to be an effective player in the AFL over the longer term. So I don't see his decision making as being up to AFL standard. As I said, some more experience might improve his game awareness and hopefully that translates into better decision making.

I acknowledge decision making needs improving although more so around goal, up field it's generally ok for mine. Having said that he's arguably been our most effective small fwd this season so I think he's tracking really well for a young bloke

I get the impression he rushes things, especially when closer to goal. It blinds him to opportunities.

Elite decision making under pressure is what makes Cotchin the player he is.

Castagna will be a very good player for us if he can improve his decision making. I think his kicking for goal will improve as he gets more comfortable with playing at the top level.

And FWIW, I think he was an great value pick for what he cost us.

We usually talk about the 3 amigos together in the other thread.

Georgie missed out on a huge bag tonight. Could have had 6 as the four he missed we're the simpler shots. Ironically, he kicked the toughest one.

Castagna is probably the strongest and the best of them above his head. Finds his own ball a fair bit but it's just a shame his goal kicking is so putrid.
