Which Tiger players are elite?

I disagree on Maric. Even fully fit I don't think he's elite, IMO he is overrated. His presence on the field cannot be questioned but to be elite you have to have more than that

Fair enough. Although you have to judge him as a ruckman and when he is playing his best football he is close to the best ruckman in the league.  In my eyes that makes him elite for his position.

I think his presence on field is better defined as being an elite leader which Maric clearly is.

He is an outstanding leader on and off the field and I'll take that in a lot of cases ahead of a super star player. I haven't graded him as "elite" because I thought the criteria the thread was focusing on was the playing side

so how do people define elite.

there are many many players who have elite traits but lack in some areas of the game. take martin i cant put him in the elite bracket just yet not until he starts to win more contested ball, learns to always run both ways and start to lay tackles consistently.
there are few players who are very good to excellent in all areas of the game who perform almost week in week out at a high standard.

Sir Claw, elite was first used as a football term by Eddie Everywhere to pat himself on the back for signing up Nayfun!  Ergo - Nayfun is elite because I (Ed) paid so much to get him that he must be better than any previous champion footballers.  Ed decided that Nayfun was so good that he needed a bigger & better word to describe him! 
To describe any player as elite is quite naive, by its definition elite means that that player is the absolute best ever seen in every aspect of the game! 
I have seen thousands of footballers in my time & 99.999% of them have at least one fault, one weakness.  The closest I have seen to being a fully rounded, genuinely elite player would be Keith Greig!  Two Brownlows weren't enough to describe him.  The other player who pops to mind as being genuinely elite is Alex Jesaulenko.  When compared to those two, all the rest are just average footballers battling against their weaknesses.
Elite when used in football terms is just an example of one-up-manship.  Greig was 'brilliant' so Nayfun has to be better than brilliant to satisfy Ed's massive ego.  Its a ridiculous term that I wish we could lose from our football language.

I thought Elite was a Champion Data term where the player is in the top 5% (correct me if I'm wrong) in all statistical categories pertaining to his position.

As for RFC I'd say Cotch, Lids, Rance are definitely there.

JR is there when he is played in the correct position ie no making way for TV in the goal square.

For the future I believe Ellis and Milo are close and my gut feeling tells me Vlastuin will get there in the next couple of years.

Judged as a ruckman in his first year he had an elite/very close to elite year but only one outstanding year (whether from injury or not) isn't enough to be classed elite IMO.

What about GAJ?

Jezza made my list for all those 'Jesaulenko you beauty' moments!  Plus playing brilliant football at both ends of the ground as captain/coach.  If Lil Gaz plays up forward, takes about 50 massive hangers & kicks a ton I might have to swap them over!  Don't worry though, GAJ is right up there in my book, but I'll let him finish his career first & then re-think my order.  Notice also that triple Brownlows didn't get Stewart or Skilton into my top 2 ...
