Will we finish above the Drug cheats ?
« on: January 24, 2015, 04:14:24 PM »
They lost Ryder but added Giles, Gwilt and Cooney. Do you think they will finish above us and where do you see their list heading in the next few years ? Are we on a better path ?

Yeah probably but then what. Win a final finish top 4 or get humiliated again like the last 2 yrs

Who knows

they did finish above last yr
hmm based on ins and outs id say we did not make up any ground
significant outs
rich- jackson
ess- ryder.
ins
rich - hunt, nd 12, nd 33, nd 52.
ess - gwilt, cooney, giles, nd 17,nd 20.
id say if we want to finish above them we will have to significantly improve from within.

very very old
mature and experienced.if you look at most top 4 sides you will say the same thing. thing is the vets 29 and older in that team are still performing to a decent level.
fletcher does a job every yr and remains durable at 39 ffs.watson is watson and imo doesnt look like hes slowed up at all. i mean inside mid hes not reliant on pace never has.
goddard is 29 but is playing as good as ever when he became a free agent i could not work out why we would not  go at him.. winderlich  at 30 is a concern for them imo. he may not get a game imo because merrett will probably keep him out.ffs we went after jason. chapman i love i wish we went hard at him he hardly missed a beat last yr. cooney well injuries etc have hurt him but hes probably come of one of his better yrs in yrs.
theres not a lot of vets but there isnt many juniors. it says most have enough games and have reached the right age brackets.
personally i have no problem with 29 plus yr olds i mean look at the quality of these vets and thats the key. even if they drop off a bit they still out perform lesser players.
if geelong had worried about age they would have missed out on two premierships.

nope but i think they will be  in the 8 or close to it again.
as far as age and  experience with their best 25 or so players  goes they should be aiming for top 4. thats just two of the boxes that need to be ticked though.pretty important boxes though.
just look at how much potential  sides like gcs and gws  have had to date but it hasnt helped them because they lack maturity and experince with too many.  i think both clubs are just about ready to make their charges for finals and success though. look at melbourne when they cut out all the experinced blokes they became a rabble. they too have slowly got it back on course and will improve.

we went oiut and got ordinary mature players with games behind them because the lack of experience and maturity found us struggling to even compete.
