Prince Phillip made an Australian knight.
« on: January 26, 2015, 02:14:56 PM »
Prime Minister Tony Abbott is standing by his decision to make the Queen’s husband, Prince Phillip, an Australian knight.

http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/australia-day-2015-former-defence-force-chief-angus-houston-and-prince-philip-our-newest-knights/story-fnii5smr-1227196430177

:facepalm

Seriously, what an embarrassing joke that makes a total farce of our Australian awards system. It's unfair to those who over the years have genuinely earnt their award by making a significant contribution to our country.

NT News has the best headline so far;

"Thanks Austria, says Sir Prince"  sub titled, "Quote may be fabricated"

Just another example of Tony showing his outstanding leadership qualities

Highlighting his understanding for the feelings of the majority of the people he is supposed to represent

Is there a more out of touch pollie around than our PM

Sorry but this is one of the most idiotic, egotistical decisions made by this fool.

No I don't like him never have but stupidity like this just confirms what I've always believed and known and that is the man is a moron

Heh...Tony trolling the left again....

Re-introducing the knights and dames was trolling the left.
Giving one to PP is trolling Team Australia.
It's hard to see this buffoon lasting the year.
The Rudd/Gillard lesson is relevant to the libs here. The lesson is that you can't leave an ex leader lurking on the backbench. They need to get him right out of the picture, send him off to the Vatican on a special mission.

The real stupidity was when Tone bought the antiquated titles of Knights and Dames back in the first place. Prince Sir Phillip just cream on the cake.

He did say at the time they would be for Australians only.

gee big issues here ranks with all the other issues going on in our country

if shorton gets in  :banghead i hope he takes it to a vote because from my understanding it was dodgy the way it was handled last time and really who wants or cares about the monarchy.

What are you talking about Angus  :huh

Tony's idiotic decision to give Prince Phillip a knighthood or wanting another vote on a republic?

2 totally separate issues

But you are right if you are talking about the republic vote. Yes in a way about the last vote on a republic was dodgy. it got defeated not because people wanted to keep the monarchy

But because John Howard and his then govt structured in such a way that we the public would have no say on who our head of state was going to be. People voted more against the model on offer than wanting to keep the monarchy IMVHO
