We drafted Graham this year to help add a mature body to our list to protect our young talls and give them more time to develop rather than just throwing them to the wolves.

With Graham retiring do we expect a Thursfield, Moore, Archibald or even Schulz to fill the breach in 2006 or should we use a late pick to find another temporary tall backman?

i think thursfield will be put on a specific pogram this preseason to add 10kgs or more but reatin his athleticism. something in my gut feeling tells me they will trade shulz, he was meant to be groomed as a defender but has not come up trumps , i know he has been injured but i think more has progressed better and will stay

I dont think Moore can cut it and I wouldnt be surpised if we pee him off at season's end.

Schultz and Arch have to move....you cant stay on a list for 4-6 years and offer nothing. So either they step up, or ship off.

This is only Archibald's 2nd year. Spent all but the last couple of weeks last year out injured.
No idea if he'll make it but I'd like him to at least be given a chance.

I guess people have their reasons, but it would seem too early to tell anything about what the future holds for Schulzy, just yet?

Even though he has been on the list for a few seasons, he’s only turned 20 this year.  As he’s a bigger body type, he’s naturally going to take a bit longer to adjust.  We also have to remember that he had some injury setbacks throughout this season.

All things considered, he couldn’t even know what he’s capable of yet and until he’s had a fair go at it then should we be wanting to trade him so quickly, unless there’s no improvement in him?

You would think he’s done a fair amount of learning and growing up, especially in the last year or so; why let him go now when this is the time we should start to see what the benefits of a few seasons at an AFL Club can do?  Otherwise, we’ll just have to start over again with another 18 y.o., and go through the same learning curves?  At some point, we’re going to have to be able to develop players, otherwise no player will ever be good enough.

Well said TS if we keep going along that path we will forever be without players in the magic age range and forever languishing in the lower end of the ladder.

I think (and i know I have) we have forgotten how serious not only Jay's anke injury was but also what an interupted pre-season he had coming into 2005.

I was at the Club80 dinner on Tuesday night and Jay was one of the guests and he mentioned that before Xmas he had torn his quad muscle and for a number of weeks couldn't do anything. Then with the ankel tt was not aonly a break but ligament damage as well that has taken nearly all season to get over, coupled with having rolled the same ankle twice while trying to come back.

We would be crazy to trade him and as TS he is only 20, this being only his 3rd season after being drafted at 17.

Blokes his size 6ft4"+ are hard to come by and I reckon we need to presevere with him. I still believe he is our best bet long term at CHB

I am still convinced that Schulz would make a far better forward, maybe a defenseive OPTION, but doubt he could hold down a KP defensive role consistently.

I think if Moore will be anything, it will be a leading 3rd option forward, i dont think his cut out for AFL though altogether.

Archibald is 19 1/2 and is still played all over the ground at Coburg.

Agree Razor. IMO he's a forward given his aggression at the footy, a good mark and his natural leap although suffering a serious ankle injury might curtail his "specky" days. Giving him an education in the backline is sensible as it will also teach him where to lead to etc on top of  teaching him  defensive roles. If  I'm wrong and he is suited to the backline then great but I hope we aren't trying to turn him into a CHB because we need and will need one when in fact he may be more suited to the forward line.

Forgot to mention that, since when has there been a CHB who can take lots of speccies?

He'd be a good looe man in defense (well who wouldn't be?) because his a strong mark at times, but still i prefer him as a forward any day of the week.

Who is the best defender in the VFL+SANFL who is under 25? Whoever they are, draft them!

Schultz along with Patto is the only quailty (in terms of being a top 20 draft pick) on the list along with Patto.

With such a young KPP dearth there is abosutly no chance the kid will be delisted/traded.

Archibald is a poor footballer. He is only 2nd year but he isnt much chop. More a winger/flank than KPP aynway.

Peter Knights. A while ago Razor but he probably has a bigger highlights package of speccies than any other player ever. Played most of his career at CHB.
