Pacific island holiday.
« on: February 14, 2015, 12:01:14 PM »

My darling wife has decided that we are going to a Pacific island for a holiday this year (for my 60th).

Does anybody have any recommendations re islands/resorts?

What's your rough budget and is it for relaxing or action/adventure?

Fiji-Treasure Island is a great resort, very quite though

Hawaii is great also if you want to spend a bit more to see all the islands and make it worth while. Chap flight over to vegas wouldnt hurt either ;)

If money is an issue Bali-Seminyak is the go in a nice villa, but you dont strike me as the bintang type

I have never been to cook islands or tahiti but a friend raves on about the former and says its the best place he has been to in the pacific. I have seen the pictures and it looks fantastic

Yes il go there one day. I have seen the pictures from our friends it certainly looks quality.

If you like snorkeling, Mare and Mystery island have some fantastic reefs to explore. Isle of pines has amazing sea snakes.

If you have a diving ticket, Espiritu Santo, Vanauatu has some of the best diving with the SS President Coolidge ocean liner turned WWII troop carrier wreck in only 20m of water just off the beach and Million Dollar Point where the Yanks dumped all their arms and supplies at the end of WWII from tanks, jeeps and trucks to simple helmets, plates and cutlery. Being a bit of a history buff I really enjoyed both these dives.

Also the Zego self drive jet boat tours in Port Vila are great fun. Beware the mad Taxi drivers though when cruise ships are in port. They literally fight each other to get your business.

Just sad to see the devastation to Vanuatu and the loss of life due to Cyclone Pam.
