Unique images of Jack Dyer at The Sporting Globe exhibition in Richmond

NEVER before seen photos of Jack Dyer will be on show at an exhibition next month dedicated to the Richmond football legend.

Some of the pictures, which have been digitally remastered, date back to the early 1930s and include Dyer during his playing and coaching days as well as shots with his family.

There will also be an hour-long video of Dyer showing some of his playing highlights, as well as rare interviews with Dyer himself and people who inspired him.

Residents who campaigned for a street to be named after Dyer will also be able to get a sneak peek of the sign.

Event spokesperson Suzana Talevski said about 40 pictures would be on display at the exhibition, which will be a part of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival and will run in conjunction with the Bridge Road Traders Association.

She said some of the images had been in the Victorian State Library, while others had been donated by the family.

“Locals in Richmond that grew up here and live here would be very interested to see those,” Ms Talevski said.

“People will be pleasantly surprised with what they will see on the day.”

Ms Talevski described Dyer as Richmond’s “hometown hero”.

Dyer, who passed away in 2003, was a part of Richmond’s 1934 premiership team, before he captained-coached the Tigers to their 1943 flag.

He is a member of Richmond’s and the AFL’s Team of the Century.

About 600 people are expected to attend the exhibition, which will be held at The Sporting Globe, 288 Bridge Rd, Richmond from 1-5pm on Sunday, March 1, and entry is free.
