Richmond has one vacant spot on its senior playing list, which can be filled by a rookie ahead of next Tuesday's deadline.

After impressing in the opening two pre-season challenge matches, mature-age recruit Kane Lambert appears poised for promotion if he performs well against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Kane Lambert poised to be promoted from Richmond rookie list

RICHMOND midfielder Kane Lambert is poised to finally earn a place on an AFL senior list.

Lambert, a standout against the Western Bulldogs and Port Adelaide in the NAB Challenge, is the only rookie-listed player named in the Tigers squad for the last game against North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The Tigers can promote one rookie if they choose before the league’s deadline next Tuesday afternoon and the 23-year-old, who excelled with VFL clubs the Northern Blues and Williamstown after being overlooked in previous drafts, has the front running.

“He has been really impressive. He’s a mature-age prospect, so we always expected him to be a little further advanced than our first-year players. But the way he has attacked his training and the way he has fitted into the club has been outstanding,’’ Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said.

“We’ve got some rookie elevation decisions to make by next Tuesday and he’s putting his hand up, as is Matt Thomas, Matt Arnot, these type of players,’’ Hardwick said.

Thomas and Arnot, along with injury-restricted forward Chris Knights, will play with Richmond’s VFL team in a practice match at Geelong on Saturday.

Lambert will most likely still be promoted but I think he just cost himself a round 1 spot today.

Reckon he is still a good chance for round 1

would say a few others played themselves out of the side today before Lambert

To be honest would rather play a bloke like Butler if you wanted a forward and Arnott if you were after a mid.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

dont have a problem if lambert has to go back and string together a number of solid VFL games before he gets his chance

What if you want one that can do both? Butler won't get near it in his first season either

Arnot should be first cab off the rank, followed by Lambert, then Butler, then George Costanza. Thomarse can GTFO.

Given Butler is already on the senior list he might be a little annoyed about that.

Tigers promote rookie Lambert
richmondfc.com.au
March 23, 2015 5:54 PM

Richmond has elevated rookie Kane Lambert onto its senior playing list for the 2015 season.

Lambert won the spot after featuring prominently in the Tigers’ pre-season campaign, since arriving at the Club with pick 46 in the 2014 Rookie Draft.

The 23-year-old staked his claim for senior list elevation with 15 disposals and eight tackles against the Western Bulldogs last month, and followed up with 12 disposals and a goal in the win against Port Adelaide two weeks later.

Sign up as a Richmond member for the 2015 season

He won 10 possessions and kicked a goal against North Melbourne last weekend.
