Tigers draw a 'line in the sand' ahead of Lions clash

RICHMOND is preparing to draw "a line in the sand" against the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday night, defender Bachar Houli says.

The Tigers were shock losers in round two, falling to the Western Bulldogs by 19 points at the MCG. But it was the way in which his side lost that concerned Houli the most.

"It's just about attitude. Sometimes it happens with three or four players with certain efforts – one action leads to another," Houli said on Tuesday morning.

"We're still growing as a team. I think we've come a long way but it's about rectifying our mistakes earlier and not following up with the same mistakes.

"Unfortunately that wasn’t the case on the weekend. We carried out similar errors and it cost us the game."

Houli dismissed the notion the Tigers lack strong on-field leadership and revealed an honest feedback session with coach Damien Hardwick formed a critical part of the club's review of the loss to the Bulldogs.

"The coach gives you honest feedback - it's about agreeing and accepting. If there's a contest we didn't go 100 per cent at, the coach would pull us up about that," Houli said.

"We're going to move forward, draw a line in the sand and not make the same mistakes."

Richmond is hopeful star midfielder Brett Deledio will be fit to return for the clash against the Lions, along with Shane Edwards – who was a late withdrawal ahead of the match-up against the Dogs because of a calf issue.

The dual best and fairest winner missed the duel with the Bulldogs through suspension, but would not have played regardless as he continues to battle his own calf problem.

Deledio and Edwards were both on light duties at training on Tuesday, completing stationary ball work and jogging laps with Reece Conca (hamstring).

Deledio left the track early after a conversation with Tigers physio Anthony Schache, but Houli said he expects both Deledio and Edwards to rejoin full training on Thursday to prove their fitness for Saturday night.

"They bring a great intensity to the game, they're hard at the footy, they're great when it comes to second, third efforts, we kind of lacked that a little bit at the weekend," Houli said.

Conca is still up to a fortnight away from a return as he deals with an ongoing hamstring concern.

"It's a little bit disappointing, but I’m only a couple of weeks away, so it’s not quite as bad as what we initially thought," Conca told the club's website.

Tigers lacked right AFL attitude: Houli

    AAP/ West Australian
    April 14, 2015

Richmond defender Bachar Houli says his AFL side didn't turn up with the right attitude in their 19-point loss to the Western Bulldogs last round.

After an impressive opening round win over Carlton, the Tigers were off the pace at the MCG.

Richmond defender Bachar Houli says his AFL side lacked the right attitude against the Bulldogs.

"Our attitude was the main bit that came out of our review," Houli said.

"We lacked intensity in certain areas and it goes to show that if you don't come with the right attitude you're going to come out second best.

"We've held each other accountable and we're going to come out with the right attitude from the first bounce."

FFS.

New age interviews.

Sadly, it's a massive reflection of their mindset and the now irremovable culture that is
embedded in Punt road.

I feel as though I'm reading a private schoolboys column about their inter-school comp,
one where everything is protected and winning is an accolade bestowed upon one for simply turning up.

"Everyone is a winner guys, even if you don't win"

Forget ANYTHING successful happening to this club.
They don't have a stuffn clue nor do they understand the true meaning of the word Team.

hhhhaaaaarrrrrrggggghhhhhhhhh hhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhh. hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

oh dear oh dear it couldnt be funnier if they tried. what a rabble. they want to thank their lucky stars bl have some pretty key players out to injury other wise id back em to win.

how many times does the attitude have to fly out the window.  before the line is actually drawn in the sand.
they seem to think doing nothing is drawing a line in the sand. they seem to think backing in blokes WHO CONSTANTLY FAIL is drawing a line in the sand. how many times does it have to happen for soething to ACTUALLY BE DONE.

NOW IM GOING TO READ IT AGAIN IT WAS GOLDEN.

It's hard to defend. Might be better they let actions speak for themselves
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

The real problem is that it shouldn't get to needing a line in the sand.  If the attitude and effort is right then the line in the sand becomes moot, and the ONLY ones who control attitude and effort are the players individually and collectively.  Top sides don't ever need line in the sand games.
