Brendon Gale confident in Rance, not with Deledio’s calf

Richmond is confident that star defender Alex Rance will be with the club for many years to come despite speculation he is seriously considering his future in the league, says Brendon Gale.

The Tigers chief executive revealed that he had only learnt last week that the 25-year-old had strong ambitions to pursue a life outside of football.

“We’ve always been very confident that Alex is very happy here, that he loves the place, so I’ve never thought he was at risk of going to another club,” said Gale on SEN radio.

“We’ve received no indication that he is not considering playing beyond this year.

“In life you have ups and downs and sometimes you want to be doing something different, but certainly that’s not reflective of how he is playing.”

In other news, there are reports suggesting that midfielder Brett Deledio could be forced on the sidelines for up to a month with a lingering calf injury.

Gale did not comment on the rumour but said he was unlikely to play against Melbourne at the MCG on Friday night.

“I’m not sure whether he’s had a setback but calves are notoriously fickle and they take a little longer than anticipated to completely recover,” said Gale.

“Brett would be no better than 50-50 this week, perhaps a little worse, probably doubtful for this week.”

However, he was happy to comment on Trent Cotchin’s performance on the weekend after the club’s captain came under significant scrutiny for his subdued impact on the first two matches.

“I think a lot was made of it, but look Trent hit the scoreboard and we love midfielders that can kick goals,” said Gale.

“He had great forward pressure and got a lot of his footy forward of centre.

“I don’t know whether that criticism impacted Trent, but he’s a very important player.”

Benny Gale talking about Lids' calf injury ....

"Calves are notoriously fickle and they take a little longer than anticipated to completely recover," CEO Brendon Gale told SEN.

"Brett would be no better than 50-50 this week, perhaps a little worse.

"He'd probably be doubtful this week, but beyond that I'm not really sure."
