Richmond veteran Chris Newman expects star defender Alex Rance to re-sign

Richmond veteran Chris Newman says he expects star defender Alex Rance to re-sign with the club.

It was reported last week that Rance, who is out-of-contract at season's end, was not just considering his future with the Tigers, but in the AFL.

Newman is confident he'll stay at Punt Road.

"Personally, I think he'll sign, but I actually haven't spoken to him in great depth about it," Newman revealed on 3AW.

"We know he's different and if anyone was going to go backpacking, it would probably be him.

"He's different to anyone I've ever met, but in a good way.

"He's obviously very, very important to us and is probably the best full-back in the league at the moment.

"We all want him to stay."

The star veteran was also quizzed about the much-publicised dropping of Sydney champion Adam Goodes, who is expected to spend a second week in a row in the NEAFL.

Newman said playing in the reserves was a reality older players had to be prepared to face.

"I think so, yeah," Newman, 32, said.

"Obviously it varies on your position in the team and obviously Adam Goodes is a dual Brownlow medallist and he's probably got a little more currency than I have.

"But certainly going into this year I sort of prepared that there might be an opportunity for me to go back to the VFL, which is not going to be ideal for me, but I guess you've just got to be aware of it at the latter stages of your career."

Refreshing it would be to hear someone say, "It's Alex's decision and only he knows the answer to that question.....clearly".

Yep, I'd be getting majorly peed off with the club if I was Alex Rance

On the contrary I don't think it would be worrying Alex in the slighest   ;D

Let's hire Robert Walls as a consultant.

He can come down to training, get the boys in a circle and put Rance in to fight them one by one until he signs.

Does Alex Rance like other people talking for him?
Maybe he can provide power of attorney to Chris Newman for his contract? ::)

:thumbsdown

Ummm....we tried that & it was probably close to the worst decision the club has ever made.

But I get the joke.  :thumbsup

How are they "talking for him"?

People are being asked a question and are giving their opinion. What do you expect them to say?

"I reckon he is gone" or "I don't give a stuff" ?

So as I said I don't think Alex would care
