Brendon Gale on SEN pre-game.
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:35:58 PM »
Benny Gale was on SEN just after midday:

* We were a poor footy club when Dimma arrived. He's developed the team. We're not bad side now but when injuries hit our depth gets tested.

* If you don't have depth how can Rance not be in your top 9 players? It was a timing thing. When we last signed him he was just going and he missed some games which missed bonus payments. I'm confident Rance will be at Richmond. Alex isn't motivated by chasing money. There's other factors and we'll deal with them.

* Not enough is done to equalise the competition on-field. There's the draft but the draft is compromised by free agency. Would like to see a mid-season draft.

* Any rumours about there being a discussion at board level about Hardwick's tenure is "Bullsh*t". Gale apologised for the language but he wanted to be strong about this. Gale said he's the CEO and he deals with the board and there's been no discussion.

* Disappointed with the effort last week. We can't get distracted by sentiment. We've got to plow on and stick to our plan. We know people are hungry for success are being deprived for so long. However, it's not linear. We've come a long way but we knew we'll have dips. The strong clubs have faith. Not blind faith but faith in sticking together and building a strong club.

* We've managed our list and TPP so we can go after someone. Not necessarily Dangerfield but someone along those lines. Gale wouldn't give names when Shiel and Treloar were mentioned.

After Benny had left the studio:

* David King says Richmond is in a stronger position off-field than Port Adelaide. They are a powerhouse. They just need to get the onfield right. They need a big fish. That's why King said he asked Brendon Gale about it. He's not sure Richmond does have cash in the kitty to chase a big fish or two which is what they need. If they lose Rance however they will have a bottom 6 list and will be a bottom club for the next 4-5 years.

* King started talking about Brisbane improving if they can get Rance. Maxwell chips in and says Rance won't be going to another club. It's either Richmond or he quits footy.

Damien Hardwick’s job is safe at Richmond, says chief executive Brendon Gale

Herald-Sun
May 02, 2015 1:16PM

RICHMOND chief executive Brendon Gale says Tigers coach Damien Hardwick has his and the club board’s full support.

Hardwick came under fire last week after Richmond’s shock loss to Melbourne at the MCG.

But Gale could not be clearer today about Hardwick’s future.

“I want to be absolute sure and clear for the avoidance of doubt (that) any discussion about Damien Hardwick’s tenure at Richmond is bull----,” Gale told SEN 1116.

“It’s part of footy when you put in a performance like that — no matter how you’re travelling — people look to explain the loss ... it’s convenient to just go to the coach.

“I am the CEO of this club, I run this club on behalf of the board and I am accountable to that board and that’s (Hardwick’s future) simply not on the agenda.”

Gale paid tribute to Hardwick’s list build, but conceded the club struggles to cover injuries.

“When we’re at our best and our strongest we’re not a bad football team,” Gale said.

“There’s credit in that because it wasn’t so long ago we were a very poor football team.

“Strong arm to the coach for transforming this list over a few years in challenging times but I think at our best we’re not bad and we’ve got to get better as all clubs do.

“All teams have injuries but I think we struggle more than most because of our lack of depth.”

Gale said he was confident the club would broker a deal with out-of-contract All Australian defender Alex Rance.

“I’m confident he’ll be at Richmond but I take nothing for granted,” he said.

Brendon is taking the piddle - plain and simple or he doesn't know what they should be doing. Get a better coach and some better players would be a good start. We are not a charity for Hardwick and his assistant coaches. They should all go.

I don't care how well or poorly a coach is going, if they aren't being discussed at board level they all have their heads so far up their clacker

Correct.  The number one subject at every board meeting should be how they can improve on field performances. That may mean improving assistants and recruiters as well as the coach.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Really, how did he manage that?

Seeing he no longer coaches the Geelong VFL side....
