5 pages and no joy other than nostalgic.
Besides the usual, self appointed damage controller, the rest are in agreement.
Really, only an idiot would be enjoying any of this.

Maybe the question should be, what’s to like about Richmond and footy?  Probably Bo is best to answer this as he’s on the edge of his seat each week.

Me, I cringe at the non-heroics of our leaders, especially Jack.  When was the last time he won a game off his own boot? Sick of his calling for free kicks all the time and acting like a spoilt brat.  And his sidekick Vickery, never seen a player who was more afraid of failure than he is.   Cotch is an honest battler at best in his captaincy role.  Dusty is probably the best of the lot but he goes missing also.

The time I enjoyed my footy the most in the last 20 years was when we were poo, when we were genuinely pathetic, but most of them had a go, and when we beat teams against the odds, they were the sweetest victories of all. Now, we should be expected to go into all games with a chance, but inevitably we lose.  Last year against Port in the final - FFS, what kind of effort was that?

To not even raise a whimper for Tommy Hafey was the most embarrassed I’ve ever felt being a Richmond supporter.

Honestly Bo, what is there to really like?

I very much miss Richo, he was a genuine excitement machine, who wore his love for this club on his sleeve.
When I see people like that playing for this club, or even for themselves - i don't care what they play for, just do it - then i might be more enthused again
I hope I do, it was a great game, but lately not so much

That's what killed a part of me inside. And the Richmond fans who clapped the team off the field.

Yet, there are posters on here which strongly object to this being highlighted by other people on the basis that, apparently, this used Hafeys death innapropriately just to make a personal point.

I would have thought the central issue is that the players  isn't use Hafey passing to make a point on the field as a mark of respect.

It's how I felt though at the time, it's not about highlighting anything, it just was.
Calling it inappropriate is just making more excuses for them IMO

I do not feel Hafey's death should have made any difference to their performance.  They should be running out each week with pride in the team's performance and their individual contribution to that performance. In other words they should be giving 100% every time they walk out on the field. Asking players for a special performance is admitting they are not putting in 100% on other occasions.
This is what upsets me most.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

I wonder how they would perform if you put a carrot of $10,000 extra in their pay?
Forget personal pride, they wouldn't do it for that, they have none

Seriously close to fa these days.
Had more fun in the old days when we 'expected' to lose.
And that Hafey game still makes me sick in the guts.

But it's what I do :banghead

Off to tassie next, that should be fun  :rollin

I would've thought the Central issue is how easily the players buckle under the pressure of any expectation whatsoever.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

At the time there was alot of feeling that the boys didn't put in, in the specific context of what we dedicated the game to. That remains a pretty undeniable fact til today.

I guess with the hindsight of putting in other shocking efforts you could lump it into a generic category of not performing in big games.

But for mine the Hafey game has its own specific context.

For others to suggest that posters are using the death of a legend as a cheap opportunity to belittle the players is ridiculous.

What we are saying is that the players didn't put in an effort befitting of the love and dedication Hafey had for Richmond.

For many, it was more of a soul destroying loss than any of the finals.

I could answer that however it would only lead to further victimization for admitting I enjoy watching RFC with the post likely deleted  ::)
