June 11, 2015RETIRED Richmond toughnut Jake King has revealed he almost quit the AFL for a shot at the NRL.
Speaking at a Mildura sportsman’s night, King reportedly said he had agreed to sign a two-year contract with the Melbourne Storm if he failed to get a new deal to stay at Punt Rd at the end of 2009.
According to the Sunraysia Daily, King said he considered jumping codes after meeting with Storm coach Craig Bellamy.
King had played only two games under then coach Terry Wallace before he resigned mid-way through the season.
Damien Hardwick would take up the reigns in 2010 and King would become an important part of the Richmond line-up until he retired last season due to an ongoing toe injury.
