Tigers a top-four chance: Kennelly

Sydney premiership player Tadhg Kennelly says Richmond is a chance to finish top four on the ladder and win a premiership this season.

Kennelly says the maturity of the group has set the Tigers on a path to success in September.

“To win a premiership you’ve got to finish in the top four, and they’re a chance now,” Kennelly said.

Having  now won five consecutive games, the Tigers take on West Coast at the MCG tonight, who are also on course for finals action.

After a shaky start to the season with only two wins after six rounds, coach Damien Hardwick questioned the players’ consistency.

“Early in the year Hardwick was questioning their consistency and they were playing good quarters and good parts of the game.” Kennelly said.

“He was saying good teams don’t fall away and he’s right because now they’re a good team because they’re playing four quarters of footy.”

Kennelly says the improvement of Dustin Martin, Ty Vickery, Shane Edwards and Ben Griffiths have contributed to the Tigers’ turnaround in fortune.

“I just think it’s those payers that have added on the cream. Edwards coming on. Vickery is just starting to find a position. And Griffiths as a key forward, for me, has taken the pressure off Jack Riewoldt, who can go up the ground a bit and they’re getting different avenues towards goals,” Kennelly said.

“I think it’s the maturity in the list as there are games there that would’ve given up in the past.”
