It seems like Lennon played well so I would put him in rather than Thomas.
McBean in for Griff if he does not come up.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Don't care if Thomarse gets 50 touches a week in the VFL, he should as that's his level, his selection would be a backward step...if we upgrade another rookie this year it has to be Short......

As if you've even seen Short for more than 5 minutes....posting out of your clacker as usual...

McDonough, Lennon, Ellis when fit or even Menadue should come in for Lambert before Thomarse does...hell I'd even play Lloyd ahead of him...

Thomas avg 20 possies a game at 75% eff , half of them contested I'd doubt any of those listed could contribute that , not in one game , perhaps a month  :shh

Still think we need another inside mid. Thomas might fill that void until the end of the season. Anyway the lad is literally banging the door down

Thomas, McBean, Lennon stand up

  Brent Diamond

Richmond fringe players Matt Thomas, Liam McBean and Ben Lennon were the keys to the Tigers' third VFL win of the season, by 32-points over North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium on Sunday.

Midfielder Chris Knights also made a good return from a hamstring injury sustained in round three against Brisbane.

Playing on limited game time, Knights collected 11 disposals in the first half with the highlight being his ability to break away from two opponents before setting up McBean, who kicked the first of his four goals.

Thomas was the most influential with 30 disposals. The Tigers insist the 28-year-old "continues to knock on the door" of the senior team, but the rookie-listed midfielder has yet to earn a call-up after playing 13 AFL matches last season.

Lennon was also prolific with 25 touches, while McBean, a joint winner of the Frosty Miller Medal for the top goalkicker last season, climbed into the top 10 with 19 for the season. Hawthorn's Sam Grimley leads with 24.

McBean said it was important for the Tigers to finish the game off after fighting hard for a 15-point lead at the last change in a tough, low-scoring affair. The Tigers won 11.9 (75) to 6.7 (43) after keeping the Roosters goalless in the first half.

"I suppose we've had a couple of games like that where we've been up at three-quarter-time and let it slip, so it was really important for us to keep the intensity we had in the first three quarters," McBean said.

Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald maintained his team were "a good chance" at three-quarter-time but was clearly disappointed with the outcome. It was FitzGerald's first match since being told that his contract would not be renewed at the end of the season.

The Tigers, whose previous win was in round four, now leapfrog the Roosters and Coburg to 12th position.

VFL Tigers snap losing streak

By Catherine Durkin
July 6, 2015

Richmond's VFL squad has broken a six-game losing streak, securing its third win of the season after defeating North Ballarat by 32 points at Eureka Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

In what was a relatively scrappy and low scoring contest early, the Tigers only managed two goals in the first half, while keeping the Roosters goalless.

A bit of life was injected into the game after half time, with Richmond kicking three goals to the Roosters' two in the third, before the Tigers finally kicked clear in the final quarter.

VFL coach Tim Clarke with pleased with the way his players rallied after a slow start to the game.

“A few guys were playing different positions, and sometimes it takes guys a little bit to get going and to get settled,” he said.

“Early we just weren’t making good decisions, we were second to the ball and then we weren’t putting pressure on.

“That changed after quarter time and I thought the boys were terrific from then on.

“The most pleasing thing was the effort of the guys. If you look at the tackle numbers, the boys had 80 tackles to 58, and I think that was following only nine or so in the first quarter.

“So the intensity around the contest was fantastic, and that’s what got us the result.”

On a day when goals were difficult to come by, Liam McBean was the difference up forward. After starting in the ruck, he moved forward and finished with four goals.

In the absence of Shaun Hampson, who was a late withdrawal, Clarke praised the efforts of stand-in ruckman James Wall, who enabled McBean to move forward.

“For Beany to kick four goals was really helpful.  I thought he and the other key forwards were all very strong in the air today, which is something that we’ve lacked,” he said.

“James Wall, who’s played on the wing all year, played in the ruck, and that allowed us to play Liam forward for the majority of the game, and without him playing that role for us, those goals don’t happen. So that was really pleasing.”

Matt Thomas was a consistent performer all day, continuing his impressive VFL form. He collected 30 disposals, won eight clearances and provided integral pressure in every contest he entered.

The game also marked the return of Chris Knights, the first step in his lengthy recovery from a serious hamstring injury.  He was lively early, gathering 11 touches before being rested in the second half.

Richmond travels to Preston City Oval next Saturday to take on the Northern Blues.
