“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

From today's Age online
Adelaide Crows coach allegedly murdered, son in police custody - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh is dead and police have his son in custody.

Police and ambulance crews were called to a house in Bungey Avenue at Somerton Park in the early hours because of reports of a domestic dispute.

Paramedics treated Walsh, 55, at the house but he died at the scene.

His son, 26, has been arrested over the alleged murder.

Walsh's wife was taken to hospital to be treated for injuries.

Major Crime detectives and officers from Sturt CIB are at the crime scene.

Phil Walsh played 122 VFL games for Collingwood, Richmond and the Brisbane Bears between 1983 and 1990.

He started out as a strength and conditioning coach at Geelong in his post-playing career, before becoming assistant coach at Port Adelaide in 1999, where helped the Power to a 2004 premiership.

He moved to the West Coast Eagles as assistant coach in 2009 before returning to the Power in early 2014.

He was appointed Adelaide Crows coach in the 2014 off-season, replacing the sacked Brenton Sanderson.

He coached the Crows for 10 games, winning six and losing four.

Dead set speechless.
I assume no pun intended.

I remember watching him play for Richmond back in the 80s.

He was one of the players that we got from Collingwood.

Played on the wing I think.

RIP

Yeah we're already going to vote for him mate, you don't need to keep selling it.....

What can one say? His poor wife now is a widow just when Phil was at his zenith.  Extremely distressing news.

RIP Phil Walsh.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.
