Do you think Astbury will have the tank to play on the wing WAT ?

He has being used as a utility in the seconds to very good effect apparently. I don't know about his fitness levels however he could rest in the forward line if needed as he has also been kicking goals.

I wouldn't call it playing as ulitlity ... not sure why Clarke's been using that term to describe him because they don't mean it as it used to be defined back in the day

Clarke is using it now to describe his ability to play forward or back

There is no way you could play him on the wing, forget his fitness levels and his tank he simply far too slow to play on the wing. It owuld be akin to putting Maric or Chaplin on the wing - seriously  :huh3

:noway

Might as will have this bloke on the wing too :oldguy  :thumbsup

WAT, I don't think you can compare the aerobic capacity ofAstbury to Richo.
The only versatility Astbury offers is in saving goals vs kicking them
"The money might have been better. But, at the end of the day, Richmond showed faith in me. It's only fair that now we're 18th on the ladder, I show the faith back in the club and do everything I can to put them in front. In the end, I'm stoked I made the decision to stay. I f***ing love this club”

The Barometer - Round 16
Herald-Sun
July 13, 2015

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK:
A hairline fracture to Shane Edwards, who would be top-three in the Tigers’ best-and-fairest, is a huge blow, but it could have been a lot worse. Plenty of quiet players in Friday’s scrappy win, including Nathan Gordon and Chris Newman. Kane Lambert gave Richmond a spark after being subbed on and should be safe while Kamdyn McIntosh played his best game in a month. Steve Morris had just three disposals in his return but completely shut down Chris Yarran — is there a similar match-up for him this week? Ty Vickery could be in strife if the MRP says he’s responsible for his head clash with Michael Jamison.

ON THE CUSP: Ivan Maric is available after serving his one-match suspension. A second win in a row in the VFL, with David Astbury and Liam McBean kicking two goals each in a last-quarter surge. Potential Edwards replacements Ben Lennon (25 disposals) and Matt McDonough (23) kept their names in the mix. Or could the Tigers roll the dice on Chris Knights after one-and-a-half VFL games? And don’t discount forgotten Port Adelaide hard nut Matt Thomas who has been upgraded from the rookie list and thrived in the tough conditions (including hail) with 27 disposals, nine clearances and 11 tackles.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: A tough week for selectors who need to replace Edwards and figure out the big man mix. Maric is back but Shaun Hampson was pretty good against the Blues — could he stay as a third tall forward? Damien Hardwick is happy the Tigers keep winning but he’ll want to iron out some kinks in Richmond’s game against St Kilda on Sunday before entering a tougher phase of the fixture. One player looking for a lift is Dustin Martin who has had a quiet month — Hardwick revealed on the weekend he didn’t train at all last week. Could a mid-season break be on the cards?

Yeah they said the same about Richo.. :whistle :whistle :whistle

Sorry WAT now you are grasping at straws and pretty poor ones at that

There is no way in hell you can compare Richo's aerobic capacity (read tank) to Astbury's

Richo actually had pace and a massive tank.

Astbury doesn't have a massive tank and is SLOW and I mean really slow, not just by foot but also in the decision making stakes.

Play him back or play forward but he cannot be played on the wing. Do that and the opposition will play straight through that wing

No Im not.

No reason at all we cant turn Astbury into a utility, or part time wing man, backman & forward...

If he ended up playing on a wing it would mean we'd given up on him as a defender or forward wouldn't it? cant see Astbury playing on a wing either.

C Ellis apparently is in line to return from injury. Would love to see Ellis come into the side straight away but doubt that will occur.

So many changes would be nice.
GORDAN NEWMAN GTFO.
Won't happen.
So this is what I would like to see.
Mcbean - Vickery
Donuts/Knights - Edwards
If you are going to stay slow, then Thomas for Newman
Anyone but Gordan, I honestly have not clicked with him at all. Slow decision maker, tries too much.
At least Morris chases and puts pressure.

We have so much improvement while still winning.
Our disposal going into F50 is atrocious. We need skill and class.
Last two weeks have been disgusting.
