By his standards, yes....

The Barometer - Round 21
Herald-Sun
April 17, 2015

RICHMOND

ON THE BLOCK:
Kamdyn McIntosh was the only Tiger not to record double-figure disposals, and he didn’t take the green vest off until the last quarter. Anthony Miles was subbed off but that was most likely to give the tough ball-winner’s body a rest. Sam Lloyd kicked three goals, Matt Thomas was solid and Ben Lennon has cemented his spot at half-forward after another impressive display.

ON THE CUSP: Shane Edwards is the man to watch this week. He has now missed five games with a leg fracture but Damien Hardwick says he won’t be rushed. Dylan Grimes and Reece Conca are probably another week away. The VFL side suffered a 43-point loss to Coburg. Matt Dea (27 disposals) and Matt McDonough (three goals) were good again but the best news was 28 touches and seven tackles from Chris Knights, while recently elevated rookie Jason Castagna put up his hand for an AFL debut with 33 disposals.

AL PATON’S FORECAST: It was far from perfect but the Tigers did exactly what they had to do, putting a bottom-three team away and gaining a handy percentage boost in the process. Hard to see any changes unless Edwards is fit for Saturday’s clash against Collingwood. It was the Round 7 clash against the Pies that sparked Richmond’s season, the Tigers will be hoping the scores aren’t so tight this time. But Collingwood won’t be a pushover.

Yes Ox, best game this season

But important to keep it in context, it was the Suns, terribly undermanned, very inexperienced

They all should have played well

WP you see this is where I become frustrated with the club.
Newman might have finally played a good game albeit against poor opposition but what about previous weeks?

I made a thread weeks back and asked what had happened since the first freo game.
IMV we were sharp, switched on and hungry to win, what has happened since then??? Yes we are still a pretty decent side but Dimma has slowly let the rot filter into the team.
Overlooked good performances in the VFL and picked favourite instead.

3 weeks till the end of the season and we have a number of players who are not best 22 and should not be in.
now Imv we can't drop them them all in one go, if anything it should be  max of 3 changes per week otherwise I believe it starts to hurt team balance. But with 3 weeks left I just see us going back to status quo.
fmd 6 years in we start to see decent youth coming through ( not heaps but some) and we turn to "old yella types"

So Dimma has lost the "dare" and gone into preservation mode..... Time to wake up or week 1 of finals will be another laughing stock  :shh

The anywhere, anytime Tigers.

Hardwick coaches just to make finals, not to win them.

With his jolly mates, short term fixers

Yes, VFL finals - too bad for him we won't be playing any this year.

id rather thomas than a Grigg or houli in an elimination final.

where things tighten up and squibs get found out.

Not sure about that.
The game style we played against Port, Swans, Freo and Hawks is one that can win finals. For us it is a matter of having the right balance on field and being in the right frame of mind.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

In the mix: round 21

RICHMOND

Important Tiger Shane Edwards should be ready to return from a fractured leg after five matches on the sidelines. Edwards, who was close to selection in round 20, has been increasing his running load and skills work at training and could be an important inclusion against Collingwood on Saturday.

In the VFL, Matt Dea (27 possessions against Coburg) is the most likely to push up to the top level, while Jason Castagna (33 and seven clearances) was excellent.

Chris Knights returned from a quad injury but will need more VFL time before returning ahead of finals.

Young forward Liam McBean, who has been close to selection in recent weeks, was held goalless in the VFL.
