and we get pick 59 from the doggies also and they are paying part of his salary :thumbsup

Close but no cigar ;D

Going by what's being reported we only got the player - no pick to the Tigers just young Patrick.  :rollin

Miller was just on SEN. He said we could have taken pick 59 but we aren't going that far in the draft anyway so we didn't bother. Basically got Bowden for nothing. Greg said we are done.

Miller also said that the WB will provide some assistance with Patrick’s payment (didn’t give any details).

I do not understand... if we could have got pick 59 for nothing, we should still have taken it. Perhaps we could have scored a winning trade with one of our lower picks and still had 59 to fall back on. At the very least, we could abstain with 59 and stop another developing club from picking up a youngster.

I'm becoming less and less impressed with Miller's egotistical antics.

It would have  stopped the doggies from picking a youngster up late but they've just traded Rawlings so that pick #59 will be about their 6th pick. If they don't use it which seems the case then it won't make a difference.

Bowden moves to Tigers
12:59:51 PM Fri 7 October, 2005
Scott Spits
Exclusive to afl.com.au

Patrick Bowden will finally get the chance to play in the AFL alongside his older brother Joel at Richmond after securing a move to Punt Road on Friday in a deal the Tigers' football director Greg Miller described as "good for everybody."

Miller finally snared the 24-year-old younger brother of the Tigers' dual best and fairest winner after failing to secure a trade deal with the Bulldogs for him last year.

But 12 months later and with Bowden stagnating at the Bulldogs, where he managed just eight games in 2005, the Dogs were willing to accept the Tigers' fourth round draft pick in exchange - pick 56 - with the deal the first one done on the final day of player trading on Friday.

"We spoke to Patrick 12 months ago and we couldn't come to a deal with the Bulldogs," Miller told Sportal on Friday.

"But 12 months later he is in the middle of a two year contract and the Bulldogs need to make some room on their list for some younger players and some new players and they were prepared to let him go at a bargain basement price."

Bowden managed just 50 games in five seasons with the Bulldogs but the Tigers are confident he will improve at Punt Road where he will join not only his brother Joel but also his original AFL coach - former Bulldogs and now Tigers' boss Terry Wallace.

"We think there is a lot of upside to Patrick," Miller said.

"Terry has coached him before and knows where he can best utilise his abilities and of course he joins our best and fairest winner, his brother Joel."

Miller said the younger Bowden could become an important player for the Tigers because of his versatility.

"That (versatility) is the name of the game," Miller said.

"He can play on the wing, he can got back or roll forward so he is pretty versatile."

The recruitment of Patrick Bowden ensures another chapter will be added to what is already a proud family name at Tigerland.

Not only has older brother Joel won the past two Jack Dyer Medals as well as gaining All-Australian honors for the first time this year but their father Michael played in the Tigers' 1969 premiership team while older brother Sean also played for the club in the early 1990's.

Patrick Bowden

Height: 191cm
Weight:   91kg
Recruited From:   Rovers (NT)
Debut:   2001
Date of Birth:   4 August 1981 (24 y.o.)

ABOUT 2004
The promising forward continued his steady development in 2004 with a modest 27 goals in 19 games (he booted 22 goals in 17 matches in 2003), including a season high of four against the Demons in round three. Was among the side's leading marks (95) and was prepared to present himself as a target further up the field as shown by his 60 inside 50s. Not always the most consistent kick for goal, but the younger brother of Tiger Joel Bowden still has plenty of improvement in him.

One more reason for the Bulldogs to boo us  :rollin

At 191cm I reckon we got him to play in defence as a replacement for Mark Graham. Let's hope Wallace can weave some magic as Bowden had a shocker 2005 at the doggies.

Trade you Hawthorns first 4 picks for this mastermind trade.

Patrick Bowden ................ lets all pray that he was foxing all 2005 in an attempt to being offloaded.

Cant see it happening, atleast Coburg will be happy tonight.

Our previous forays into dual sibling contracting has been a bit hit and miss. Will the Bowden's reach the respectable heights of the Gale boys or will they end up like the Bowers? (although I don't think the Bowers actually took the field in a game together as I think Brendan was drafted by the Bummers the same year Nathan joined the Tigers. If someone knows, feel free to confirm it for me.)
Anyway I hope they end up performing more like the Gale boys.

Does anyone know if there have been any other brothers playing for the Tigers in recent history?
