Rodan wants out
« on: October 07, 2005, 01:54:29 AM »
From: Tigers close door on Fevola
Greg Denham
The Australian
October 07, 2005

Richmond onballer David Rodan yesterday informed Richmond he wanted to join another club after failing to come to terms with the Tigers.

The Tigers were exploring opportunities to gain either Western Bulldog Patrick Bowden or West Coast's Kasey Green, who is also being sought by Brisbane in a direct swap with the Eagles for young Perth ruckman Llane Spaanderman.

I thought if a player copped a long term injury like a ACL in the final year of his contract, his contract is extended by a year as compensation ??? a la Rory last year. Or is that incorrect?

Rodan's original contract was meant to finish up at the end of the month so maybe because he did his knee in the pre-season it doesn't work that way as it's been 6 months since the injury occurred. It doesn't make sense to me that D-Rod has failed to come to terms unless he didn't get a year's entension and his contract ran out now.

Losing him won't be a great loss IMV but if he's uncontracted then unless we can find a deal tomorrow which will be bloody difficult given his small stature and the fact he's coming off a knee then he can walk out in the PSD and we'd get nothing in return >:(.

Pies and Dons need pace in the midfield, although they might be thinking PSD they might trade for him aswell!

Don't be suprised if Miller tries to get Julian Rowe off the pies, IIRC Miller had a hard on for him a couple of years back in his draft year!

if we dont get rid of rodent now i will be very upset! talk about overrated players, here is a chance to get rid of a dud, who is not as fast as his lttle legs make out he is. he runs sideways to much and his field kicking is poor, ok he kicks a goal every now and then but i say trade him or delist him. beleive me he is nothing special and a risk

I think you'll find that we are requird to offer him a new contract as compensation which we obviously have (something to do with his knee being a workplace injury :-\) but I don't think we are obligated to offer hm the same terms (which one can only assume we haven't  :help).

He was contracted this season - we have honoured that and now we have offered a new deal.............we will see what happens by 2.00pm.... which will probably be nothing - this is a Greg Denham piece remember  ;D

From whats being reported on SEN it sounds pretty quiet down there.

Miller just spoke to them about 10 mins ago so i would think we have finished trading now if he was talking to the media, unless ofcourse someone approaches us.

I wonder if we would have got any decent nibbles for him if this was reported on Monday instead of Friday !!!!

We could have got atleast 1 first round pick for him, if the Kangaroos and Power we so stupid then surely we could have milked them aswell !!!  >:(

All I can say is he better not walk so when his 10 disposal per match average continues in 2006 we can offload him at seasons end in the rumoured bumper draft !!!

Port and Roos trades weren't as simple as them giving up their first round picks for a single player. They still got ripped off though ;D.

Rodan was drafted at 33 because his size put most clubs off and he is coming back from a knee when agility and his speedy little legs are meant to be his main asset. If we could of got a first round pick we'd be laughing. I agree PRR that finding out he wants to leave the night before the final day of trade week was a real big help - NOT! ::)

The days of the small rover midfielders seem gone IMV. That's why I have my reservations about Foley as well. I hope I'm wrong but you look at the midfielders we are competing against and they're big strong-bodied boys.
