Two, 'A Graders; , away from more serious form of success ?

I happen to come across a  theory in more recent times ,  some fans,  people of opposition clubs, were sharing they think our current best five players are pretty good -
 but Richmond is not a serious threat.  Given the finals efforts and state of the list, among other factors.

At a time we were linked to trelor and Carlisle (types),  some people were seriously worried...  about the prospect of Richmond 2016 doing some damage -
  ... that would of bee seven a graders in the best 22. The current 'big five', and the two potential new players



Are we one or two a graders short from being a serious contender?

Do we wait for next trade period or can vlastuin types full th void?

Yarren is a pretty good start?

I think ultimately its more about getting more out of our middle band players and even our bottom 5.

Thats why getting guys like C Ellis and Lennon up and playing at the standard is important, people like Grigg are forced to perform or be dropped.

However, I felt strongly that if we got Treloar we'd have had the best midfield in the comp, so I guess in answer to your question I reckon its 1 A grader off being really intimidating.

Playing blokes like Newman, Morris, Chaplin, Gordon etc really hurt us this year.

Those few spots at the bottom of the 22 should be priority. Hopefully Townsend and Yarran can help alleviate that issue.

Problem is we haven't addressed our issues fast enough. Ruck and KPP's will be an issue soon, so chasing an A-grade midfielder might be off the table next year or the one after simply because we have bigger 'needs' again IMO.

It's not just this, imv we need a quality player that will stand up when the chips are down regardless of opportunities and will and inspire the team to win.
So often our A graders can go missing and maybe it's just a personality thing but if we could snare one of these Treloar,  wines, O'Meara types. Not only do we improve or midfield but our flexibility in the back line and forward line improve too. Dusty or Lids could become an 80% forward, my be even permanently.

Pies get Treloar and state that Swan will head forward in 2016.

- settled line up, like them or not the duds blended with the good uns make them predictable to each other
- we have 5 guns, all recruited and developed within the club

The reality is that more of the above won't make us a great side - look at the Hawks.
The last 2 off seasons have been missed opportunities to add quality to where our deficiencies lie.

Like our 3 elimination finals, we've failed to make the most of our opportunities.

I think our elim final losses are as much a mental problem as not having the cattle on the park, especially the loss to Carlton in '13. We would have lost to Sydney the next week, however winning that final may have led to stronger final last year against a team that was less than a kick away from the big dance (and Hawthorn smashed Sydney in the GF to put even more qualification on it) and certainly this year. This group suffering from the ghosts of shabby richmond past, matched with expectation from flogs like us.
