RT just showed alleged mobile phone footage of what appears to be a dead Russian pilot with people standing around saying Allahu Akbar. They can't confirm it is the actual pilot but Russian press have confirmed it is Russian Air Force insignia and Russian Ministry have claimed it an act in support of ISIS. Apparently Russia can enact NATO Article 51 and act against Turkey on the grounds of self defense. NATO to hold emergency meeting soon.

Turkish PM currently speaking and RT only have a rough translation saying they gave the Russian plane 10 warnings but the counter argument is that then the plane was in Syrian airspace. The plane also crashed in Syrian territory. Turks claiming it was shot down from the air. The area of concern is currently in Syrian rebel hands and I think (don't quote me) is inside the unrecognised Turkish buffer zone into Syria.

Russian jet flight path according to Turkish radar. Apparently they gave the jet 10 warnings in 5 minutes but judging flight speed and area crossed the jet was in only in Turkish airspace for around 5 seconds. Obviously the plane was in action helping the Kurds along the border region on the Syrian side. This goes against Turkish interests as they're against both the Kurds and Assad regime. Poor form to do this to who is suppose to be allies against terrorism in the region. Turkey have made it clear who's side they're on. Putin has been using strong language, calling it a stab in the back from supporters of terrorism and there will be consequences but despite his reputation he isn't a war monger. I'm sure he will do his best to resolve this without conflict but it's a massive deal and the ramifications have potential to be massive.

Putin's statement:

"This event is beyond the normal framework of fighting against terrorism. Of course our military is doing heroic work against terrorism... But the loss today is a stab in the back, carried out by the accomplices of terrorists. I can’t describe it in any other way. Our aircraft was downed over the territory of Syria, using air-to-air missile from a Turkish F-16. It fell on the Syrian territory 4km from Turkey."

"Neither our pilots nor our jet threatened the territory of Turkey. This is obvious. They are fighting terrorists in the northern areas around Latakia, where militants are located, mainly people who originated in Russia, and they were pursuing their direct duty, to make sure these people do not return to Russia. These are people who are clearly international terrorists."

"Taking into account that we signed an agreement on deconflicting with the US, and as we know Turkey was among the ones that has joined the US coalition. Since Isis has such huge resources of hundreds of millions and billions of dollars coming from illicit oil sales, and they are protected by the armed forces of other states, then it’s clear why they are so brazen, why they are killing people, why they are carrying out terrorist attacks throughout the world including in the heart of Europe."

"We will analyse everything, and today’s tragic event will have significant consequences, including for Russia-Turkish relations. We have always treated Turkey as a friendly state. I don’t know who was interested in what happened today, certainly not us. And instead of immediately getting in contact with us, as far as we know, the Turkish side immediately turned to their partners from Nato to discuss this incident, as if we shot down their plane and not they ours."

"Do they want to make Nato serve ISIS? I understand that every state has its own regional interests and we’ve always respected that, but we will never allow the kind of crime that happened to today to take place. And of course we hope that the international community will find the strength to come together and fight against the common evil."

"We have long been recording the movement of a large amount of oil and petroleum products to Turkey from Isis-occupied territories. This explains the significant funding the terrorists are receiving. Now they are stabbing us in the back by hitting our planes that are fighting terrorism. This is happening despite the agreement we have signed with our American partners to prevent air incidents, and, as you know, Turkey is among those who are supposed to be fighting terrorism within the American coalition."

"If Isis is making so much money – we are talking about tens or maybe even hundreds of millions, possibly billions of dollars – in oil trade and they are supported by the armed forces of an entire state, it is clear why they are being so daring and impudent, why they are killing people in such gruesome ways, why they are committing terrorist attacks all over the world, including in the heart of Europe."

Don't even need to refer to Wikileaks, they were caught just this year in June for it http://greece.greekreporter.com/2015/07/17/turkish-fighter-jets-violate-greek-airspace-again/

And don't forget their outrage when Syria shot down one of their aircraft over Syrian airspace where it was flying around for 5 minutes and refused to heed warnings https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2012_interception_of_Turkish_aircraft

There must be a move from NATO or Turkey to be removed from the NATO. Been doing some digging on anything that might be related and it appears Germany are removing their anti air batteries from the Turkish border. I'm guessing they or someone else has pre-empted this.

https://www.rt.com/news/312559-germany-withdraws-missiles-turkey/

The more I read the more it looks like the US are genuinely regretting this coalition with Turkey. Some of the disputed airspace appears to be the buffer zone created over Syria that only NATO members recognise. It's seeming more and more that the only reason the Turks got the west into this was to bomb their enemies under the guise of fighting terrorism. The odd mention in places like RT that the Russians will be providing anti air support to the Syrian Kurds, the enemy of Turkey. Russia will probably mobilise Syria and their proxies and Turkey will be excluded once again from the middle eastern sphere as the power balance shifts

Starting to look like Erdogan was only using Isis to get others to help him bomb the Kurds and change the regime in Syria.
