Dimma is contracted, will be reviewed: Gale

Richmond will formally review Damien Hardwick’s position as senior coach of the club before determining if they give him a contract extension, says Brendon Gale.

The Tigers have somewhat of a tough decision to make given they have improved significantly since Hardwick took over, but are yet to win a final.

“It’s not something we’ve thought long and hard enough for just yet, I mean Damien is contracted for another year,” said Gale on SEN radio.

“Right now, we are reviewing all aspects of our organisation and he is no different.

“We’ll form a view as to how we actually approach that in the not too distant future.

“What I will say is this, we’ve worked hard over the last few years to create a supportive, stable and accountable environment.”

Hardwick is preparing for his seventh season in charge at Punt Rd and Gale is satisfied with the condition of the list after the trade period.

Despite missing out on all their big targets they were able to add a few players and will have pick 12 in the upcoming national draft.

“Look, I think so (they did enough during trade week),” said Gale.

“We’ve approached these things very methodically and last year we decided we weren’t going to be as active.

“Clearly we were on record as having a very strong interest in Adam Treloar, we’d earmarked Chris Yarran early but we added a few inside midfielders like Andrew Moore.”

Off the field the Tigers are in a relatively strong position after posting a $458,000 profit for this year.

“It’s a strong result and we certainly don’t take that for granted,” said Gale.

“Essentially we a non-for-profit, it is not or aim or intention to record massive big surpluses.

“We take money from our core sponsorship to basically re-invest back into our football team.”

Richmond in no rush to re-sign coach Damien Hardwick
November 17, 2015 9:56am
Herald Sun

RICHMOND is in no rush to extend coach Damien Hardwick’s contract, according to chief executive Brendon Gale.

Hardwick is contracted until the end of 2016 but a pass mark for the Tigers next year will be to win a final.

The Tigers have played finals in the past three seasons but has lost at the first hurdle each time.

Even though a contract extension appears likely, Gale said Hardwick’s position will be considered as part of a club review next year.

“It’s not something we’ve thought long and hard enough for just yet, I mean Damien is contracted for another year,” Gale told SEN this morning.

“Right now, we are reviewing all aspects of our organisation and he is no different

“We’ll form a view as to how we actually approach that in the not too distant future.

“What I will say is this, we’ve worked hard over the last few years to create a supportive, stable and accountable environment.”

Gale earlier this year said Hardwick was the right man to lead the club and calls for him to be sacked after the Tigers started the season 2-2 were “a very shortsighted view”.

Richmond’s first to fourth-year players started pre-season training last week and recruit Chris Yarran had his first session at the club yesterday.

The Tigers missed out on top trade target Adam Treloar but Gale was satisfied with securing Yarran and Greater Western Sydney midfielder Jacob Townsend during the trade period, and later recruiting Port Adelaide midfielder Andrew Moore as a delisted free agent.

“We’ve approached these things very methodically and last year we decided we weren’t going to be as active,” Gale said.

“Clearly we were on record as having a very strong interest in Adam Treloar, we’d earmarked Chris Yarran early but we added a few inside midfielders like Andrew Moore.”

Richmond, meanwhile, continues to go from strength to strength off the field after announcing a $459,000 profit.

And from John Ralph's twitter

Everything the Tigers do is about stability. Be stunned if he didn't get an extension before Round 1 https://t.co/PjplhsRN7n

Results on the ladder are stable too, wonder if there is support for that?
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Yep!

The thing with uninspired administrative decisions is........they all still get paid.
It's as though they have a business plan that offers them financial security without either improvement
or first grade success.

It's a shame that they have been so cowardly behind the scenes

Why is the benchmark for Hardwick's extension "win 1 final".

Last year's benchmark according to Peggy was 1 win, we failed last season and we failed this season so why is last years benchmark next season's benchmark?

Next seasons benchmark should be a good showing in the preliminary final , nothing less. If Hardwick can't deliver then move him on.

Maybe the admin recognise that our team still needs 3-4 players to make it a bona fide contender.

They would thus think it's unfair to expect Dimma to win a premiership.

So maybe a "pass" would be a finals win. A good grade, maybe a "B", would be a prelim final. An "A" would be a GF and an "A+" would be a flag.

For me, I would think that a top 4 finish is vital.
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.
