Riewoldt backs Cotchin as Tigers captainHerald-Sun
November 19, 2015RICHMOND spearhead Jack Riewoldt has backed Trent Cotchin to captain the club despite suggestions the Tigers should consider replacing him as skipper.
Earlier this month Herald Sun chief football writer Mark Robinson said the Tigers must consider replacing Cotchin as captain because he might not be the right choice during what has been a mentally challenging period of three straight elimination final losses.
It was suggested that Riewoldt could replace the 25-year-old.
But the forward rejected the idea on Wednesday night, declaring instead that Cotchin is the best person to lead the Tigers in 2016 and beyond.
“Our leadership group is second to none in my opinion,” Riewoldt told SEN.
“The way we’re led by our captain Trent Cotchin and his supporters and the actual leadership group is very strong for us.

“I fully support Trent. I think he’s going to be a fantastic captain going forward — he’s growing into the position with every day that he sits in it.”
“I can’t even entertain the question (of becoming captain) because in my eyes I think Trent is the best person to captain our football club and it would be disrespectful for me to give an answer when I see him as the captain of our football club.”
Riewoldt, 27, believes Cotchin will also benefit from the input of emerging leaders such as All-Australian centre halfback Alex Rance, as the group continues to mature under coach Damien Hardwick.
Cotchin was spotted at Princes Park last Saturday as the one-to-four-year Tigrs returned for pre-season training, as he cast an eye over the youngsters during a 3km time trial.
The senior players are not due to return until November 27.
